Thunderkick is set to unleash its latest high-volatility slot, Second Thunder, on February 25, 2026. Throwing players into a Norse battlefield on the eve of Ragnarök, the game features a unique feature row and a transformative wild field mechanic with a max exposure of 12,500x. We spoke with Michael Collins, Game Product Owner, Thunderkick about the stormy theme, the game’s layered features, and how the studio’s independent approach shapes every spin.

In our exclusive interview, we explore how the feature row builds anticipation, the visual impact of the wild field, and who this hard-hitting game is designed for. Michael also gives us a sneak peek at Thunderkick’s roadmap for the rest of the year.

Being a Scandinavian company helps; we understand Norse mythology very well. The tone of battle, set immediately before Ragnarök, pairs well with the math model – it’s a hard-hitting game!

Banner of Second Thunder by ThunderkickGamingslots: Second Thunder brings players to a medieval battlefield with warriors, beasts, and Thor’s thunder. What made your team pick this stormy Norse showdown theme to kick off spins?

Michael Collins: From day one of the ‘Second Thunder’ production, our focus was realising a theme that would complement the big win potential that the wild dield feature delivers. Being a Scandinavian company helps; we understand Norse mythology very well. The tone of battle, set immediately before Ragnarök, pairs well with the math model – it’s a hard-hitting game!

There’s a stark contrast when the lightning strikes against the dark background during the wild field feature. The instant visual feedback creates keen interest.

GS: The feature row above the reels drops wild stacks, scatters, and multipliers up to 25x on reels when active. How does this row change the pace for players during base game spins?

MC: I am a huge fan of how the team implemented the feature row when it’s NOT active. Being able to see elements through the clouds braces the player for impact. This encourages players to see the visible volatility even when experiencing dry spells – the calm before the storm. Spinning becomes more conscious, raising levels of engagement for players.

GS: Wild field turns symbol rectangles into wilds when wilds hit multiple reels, and bonus game gives free spins with permanent feature row. What do players notice most about these big moments?

MC: There’s a stark contrast when the lightning strikes against the dark background during the wild field feature. The instant visual feedback creates keen interest. Combined with the unpredictability of where the wilds land, and players notice anything can (and will) happen! When the storm has arrived during free spins, players are under perceived high-pressure moments where each spin matters.

GS: With high volatility and 12,500x potential on 50 paylines, how does Second Thunder work for casual spinners versus those chasing longer sessions?

MC: Casual players will appreciate the feature row for frequent “punchy” hits in the base game, especially with the combination of multipliers and stacked symbols. There’s always a feeling that one spin can change everything (even on lower stakes). For the more experienced players chasing longer sessions, it’s a high-risk/high-reward rollercoaster sensation, but they will appreciate the layered escalation of gameplay. The maximum win isn’t out of reach.

At Thunderkick, we pride ourselves on being an independent studio, and our player-first mentality shines through because we also happen to love playing games.

For the rest of the roadmap, we have variation, each game with its own identity and headline mechanic. Players can also expect to see popular characters returning!

GS: Thunderkick’s distinctive approach—one game per month, full control from math to art—shapes Second Thunder. How does that player-first philosophy come through for players?

MC: At Thunderkick, we pride ourselves on being an independent studio, and our player-first mentality shines through because we also happen to love playing games. We know what works (and what doesn’t), allowing our development teams to dial in on key moments. It shapes all our games, everything has a distinct purpose, even down to the smaller details with subtle sounds/animations that aren’t obvious but are certainly there!

GS: As your second release of 2026 after Pan’s Arcadia, what can players look forward to from Thunderkick through the rest of the year and beyond?

MC: Immediately following ‘Second Thunder’ we have ‘Tutan Kha-Boom’ in March. The game experiments paying “bottom-up” mixed with exploding wilds and increasing win multipliers after each avalanche – creating fascinating patterns of gameplay. Then, ‘3 Wildos’ comes after that – an expansion to our popular brand. The characters themselves have grown tired of the Wild West and now exploring new horizons. For the rest of the roadmap, we have variation, each game with its own identity and headline mechanic. Players can also expect to see popular characters returning!

Second Thunder will be available on select online casinos on February 25, 2026.
