Carol of The Elves slot by Yggdrasil is somewhat of a contradiction. At Christmas, most developers simply clone an existing slot and chuck some snow on the symbols, or in the case of Netent's Aloha! Cluster Pays Christmas, just the game logo! Yggdrasil actually came up with an original Christmas Tree slot recently but this game isn't even a copy of one of their own, but rather based on Netent's Reel Rush slot! We get soft seasonal chimes to play to, the reels set over holly wreaths and juvenile symbols on the screen. So will our bankroll be singing a carol here or do the thieving elves take it for good?
On the reels...
You get 45-ways on reels in a 1-3-5-3-1 pattern to begin with on Carol of The Elves slot. Each winning symbol removes the ice blocks which cover the rest of the positions on the overall 5x5 grid and each win grants a re-spin until you lose or clear the whole grid and 3125-ways it can offer. The 5-of-a-kind pays are Reindeer or Bear 20x stake, Fox or Rabbit 10x with six card values of 1.6 down to 1x for a full way. No Wilds or scatters appear.
Bonus
When you clear the full 3125-ways, then you can fill the meters in to the left and right of the reels. The Green Elf on the left is a multiplier, the Red Elf on the right extra lives. Once the feature starts, the 10 symbols are split so 5 of them offer Red Stars and 5 Green Stars. Each Elf needs 5 stars to fill their meter and the Green Elf adds 1x to the current multiplier, the Red Elf awards an extra life which gets used when you get a dead re-spin. We are told by Yggdrasil that in test one spin in one billion resulted in the 5802x bet maximum test win.
Our View...
Carol of The Elves slot has a 96.20% RTP and quite quickly gets boring to be frank. Big wins are rare and the feature often kills you in 2 re-spins although when it does go on for a while, you can accumulate some decent multipliers and amount of extra lives, which will invariably be used up one after the other when things get interesting. If you like a gentle seasonal theme and lower volatility, this game may well prove to be the ideal slotting present for you. Me? I'd ask for the receipt so I could exchange it in the new year...
