The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is introducing new deposit limit rules to help customers better manage their gambling spending. These rules aim to provide clearer guidance and consistency in setting financial limits.
Rule Changes
From 30 June 2026, all online operators must offer customers the option to set a “deposit limit” based only on the amount deposited over a set period. This is the only limit allowed to be named a “deposit limit,” while other limits, like loss limits or those including withdrawals, may also be offered.
Starting 31 October 2025, gambling businesses must prompt customers to set financial limits before their first deposit, make reviewing and changing limits easy, and remind customers every six months to review their gambling activity. Free-text financial limits at the account level will be available, helping customers set meaningful budgets.
Accessibility
Operators must provide easily accessible links to financial limit settings on homepage and deposit pages with minimal clicks. Customer requests to reduce financial limits must be acted on immediately. These staged changes seek to empower consumers and improve clarity in gambling financial controls.
Helen Rhodes, Commission Director of Major Policy Projects, said:
Our work will help empower consumers to have greater awareness and control over their gambling.
These further changes will also bring consistency and clarity for those consumers choosing to set deposit limits, while still supporting gambling businesses to offer customer choice for different forms of limits.”
