Noughty Crosses slot review

Noughty Crosses SlotA weird mash-up of Noughts & Crosses and a tattoo parlor (and how many times do you see those two things together in the world of online slots?) renowned slot developer Cryptologic’s Noughty Crosses video slot is packed with delicious graphics, some nice animation, and not one, but two, free spins bonus rounds.

On The Reels...

The game is played out on a 5-reel grid and over 25 paylines.

Real-money bets range from $0.01 to $20 a coin, but with the 243-ways-to-win structure, that means a minimum bet of $0.25 to a maximum of $500 per spin.

This betting therefore opens the slot up to a lot of players that are playing on a range of budgets. Whether you want to bet big or small, you can get your own preferred slots experience on this slot.

The Symbols

The top-paying Noughty Crosses symbol pays 1,000 coins for hitting five across the reels. Next is the Dragon (750 coins) and the Lucky Horseshoe at 750 coins.

Making up the reels is a flaming flower tattoo plus some elaborately-drawn 9-through-Ace symbols. Whenever a winning combo is hit, some neat animation plays out on the reels (we particularly like the roaring dragon).

Noughts and Crosses Just Got Wild!

The game’s Wild is the Wild Dice icon, and subs for all symbols other than the X and O. Free games are triggered by hitting three Xs or Os horizontally, vertically or diagonally on Reels 2, 3, and 4. Three Xs triggers the X Free Games and three Os triggers the O Free Games (rather conveniently).

X Free Games vs O Free Games

In the X FREE GAMES, you’ll win five free spins plus 1 extra spin per X on the reels, plus you’ll earn more free spins during the round for every X that subsequently falls. The same applies to O FREE GAMES, with bonus spins awarded for every O that hits the reels during the feature. Unfortunately, however, the free spins round cannot be re-triggered.

Our View...

Free spins fans will warm to the bonuses on offer here, but that’s really your lot for features. With the 243-ways format proving expensive after a while I would have liked to have seen another bonus round, but with two chances to win (either hitting Os or Xs) essentially this game boasts two free spins bonus rounds. And hitting them is easier said than done.

If you’re into the 243-ways-to-win format, check out some of the other great online slots around. Microgaming’s party-themed Twisted Circus has a similar grungy vibe, while another Microgaming slot, Mystique Grove, is great for fans of generous bonuses.
