Skulls Of Legend slot is a pirate-themed game with stacked symbols. There are 30 paylines, a standard 5-reel 3-row format. We have slick graphics as usual with iSoftBet to make a decent looking game. Will the ship return with the bounty or will it leave you high and dry?
Yo ho ho and a number of Wilds
There are character symbols of the appropriate parrots, cutlasses, cannon and pistols and the red pirate pays the highest for 5-of-a-kind (5OAK) awarding 50x stake. There are the usual A,K,Q,J,10 letters of which the lowest pays 2 x stake for 5OAK. You have a non-multiplying wild on each reel which along with some of the top symbols doesn’t appear stacked but there is a twist to them – like the Microgaming slot Untamed Bengal Tiger, the Wilds will count up under each reel until you reach 4. The reel will then turn Wild for the next 4 paid spins. Of course should you have another reel with 3 accumulated and the 4th. appears in those spins you will have up to 3 spins with 2 reels Wild!
The Features, me hearties!
There is a ghost-like ship scatter on each reel and should you get 3 anywhere you will get one of 4 different free spins features. You cannot choose them as they appear on a scroll which stops for you. So what does this pirate ship offer in the way of bounty?
The first feature has the lowest number of spins, 7. Have I mentioned ‘Rum’ yet? These 7 spins are called the ‘Rhum Barrel’ spins and on any spin you can get 2-5 symbols randomly turn Wild, and what’s more they are sticky for the next 3 spins. Naturally you will like these random Wilds to overlap by appearing on consecutive or every alternate spin. Some decent booty if this one doesn’t keel-haul you!
Stepping up we have the ‘Compass Spins’. 10 spins and on any a compass may appear on reel 3 after the reels stop, and spin. Whichever direction it stops at 3 Wilds will appear in a line. So East for example off of centre of reel 3 will mean the middle of reels 3,4,5 turns wild, or West on the top of reel 3 means the top of reels 1,2,3 turn wild.
The Storm Spins award 14 and after any losing spin the reels may rearrange the symbols to award a win. There seems to be more frequent Wilds in these spins too!
Lastly there are 15 ‘No Quarter’ spins whereby 1-5 symbols can turn wild after the reels stop. Similar to the ‘Rhum Barrel’ spins above only the Wilds aren’t sticky.
It’s worth noting that none of the features re-trigger.
I have to say I’d risk a few doubloons on this game. The features are quite frequent and don’t ever seem to award those annoying 1-10x stake outcomes – I averaged over 50x stake and they appear reasonably frequently. The in-play Wild feature is interesting and the good thing about all the bonus games is that they all have possibilities after a losing spin due to the wild awards when reels stop. No more of that sinking feeling when reels 1 and 2 spin in with nothing matching! I think I’ll raise the Skull And Crossbones and have a little adventure….. I always like to offer a few other alternatives if you are into Pirate-themed slots, you might want to take a look at Pirate’s Plunder from Gamesys or the impressive Loose Cannon from Microgmaming.
