Tarzan slot review

tarzan slot main gameHaving seen the license for the Dark Knight duo of slots set to expire, Microgaming now has use of the Tarzan license, so have they scaled the heights achieved by The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises? The much-vaunted Tarzan slot will answer that question with a resounding NO!

Tarzan and Jane

The game has 5 reels of 4 rows and 40 paylines. It costs 40 coins per spin and the premium character symbols are stacked 2-high obviously Tarzan, Jane and Chimpanzee etc. These characters are represented in cartoon form unfortunately so may seem quite juvenile to some players!

The Wilds are stacked and appear 4-high on all reels paying 20x stake for 5-of-a-kind whereas Tarzan pays 12.5x down to the lowest fruits symbol, a plum which is 1x stake. The maximum pay would therefore be 800x stake for a full screen of Wilds.

Bonus in the bush

You need 3 or more bonus discs anywhere in view, and I wish I could say "to trigger the free games" but most likely not - you simply have a wheel with 10 segments which contain:

5 x Cash amounts 1-10x stake
1 x Jackpot which is 200x for a 3-scatter trigger, 400x for 4 and 1000x for a 5-scatter trigger.
2 x Hippo bonus segments
2 x Free games segments.

These are self-explanatory except for:

The Hippo bonus is simply a pick from 12 Hippos with cash amounts until you get a stop. Wow.

Free Games are more exciting - if you can trigger them. You are awarded 12 with increasing Wild stacks so by the last spin they are 15-high, similar to the Sofia feature in Playboy slot. The reels will also remove any winning symbols and new ones will cascade from above the same as Thor's free spins in Thunderstruck 2.

Our View...

Tarzan slot is a jaw-dropping disappointment. A decent 96.01% RTP hides a number of negatives to this game. Imagine buying a shiny paperback by your favourite author, only to realize a chapter in that you read it years ago and forgot, so have wasted your time and money - that's quite often the analogy for reviewing a 'new' Microgaming slot. The book would be called 'Bridesmaids Revisited' as it's a rehash of Bridesmaids slot. I have to ask why buy a license for Tarzan and put minimum effort into the game afterwards? Even worse the feature triggers about every 120 spins like most other Microgaming slots, only on this slot you won't enjoy a guaranteed sequence of free spins because nearly every time you wait for the trigger and are then awarded a measly cash amount on the wheel. These small wins should be incorporated into the base game and not passed off as a 'bonus' which I believe should be something worthwhile when triggered. Tarzan slot most certainly didn't have me yodeling with excitement...
