Not to be confused with the equally fun and frantic slot of the same name from NetEnt, Play ‘n’ Go’s Cops ‘n’ Robbers sees a similar tone employed, with plenty of cartoonish bad guys and plodding cops out to bag their bad guys.
And let’s be honest – this isn’t exactly a Sheriff Gaming or NetEnt joint like the heist-themed Piggy Bank or the gangster movie-inspired Scarface we’re talking about. There are no impressive 3D cutaway scenes or elaborate safe-cracking arcade feature bonuses in Cops ‘n’ Robbers – just some honest, Beano-like tomfoolery.
Oh, and just 9 pay-lines to go along with its 5 reels. In fact, with bets starting at just $0.01 a coin, the game caters for the casual gamer perfectly.
The five reels are packed with appropriate imagery: we get plenty of cop cars, diamonds, jewellery cases, prison bars, handcuffs, a stolen painting, police mugshot and a gold watch. All the while, a jolly keystone cop-style soundtrack runs along in the background.
The Bank Vault icon is the game’s Wild, substituting for all symbols other than the Scatter. It will double all winnings when forming a winning combo. The Scatter, meanwhile, is the Police Car. Hit three or more of those across the reels and you’ll trigger the game’s main feature bonus, a free spins bonus round. You will receive free spins until the cop car in your rear view mirror catches up with you. Keep one step ahead of the cops and your spins will keep flowing.
If you’re after a more involved crime caper experience in your slots, head to the Sheriff or Betsoft games I highlighted at the top of this review. If you prefer the cartoon capers of this game, however, and want to try out some similar games, I recommend Playtech’s crime-themed Crime ‘n’ Bandits slot or Cayetano Gaming’s ’60s British twist on the crime genre, Foxy Robbers.
