Legend of Cleopatra Megaways slot by Playson is their first use of the Megaways mechanic and to be fair they tried to be different. Playson don't appear at that many casinos and have previously given us games such as Clover Riches slot which was decent enough, as was their Clover Tales if you don't mind Irish themes but my choice was Dancing Dragon Spring Festival for the graphics. Here we get a very basic night background with pyramids, sand-coloured reels and the prerequisite Egyptian music. So will the sands of time run low for our bankroll or can we get a legendary run for our money?
On the reels...
There's a slight departure from the usual here on Legend of Cleopatra Megaways slot in that you get a scrolling row over the centre 4 reels but can still get 2-7 rows on them instead of just the outside 2 reels. This means the max ways isn't 117649 but now 200704-ways to win! Symbols can appear stacked with Wilds appearing on the middle 4 reels too, but on the main reels and not the top scroll, another difference. the 6-of-a-kind pays are 40x Cleopatra, Eagle 4x, Cat 3x, Horus 2x and six card values of either 0.75 or 0.5x for a full way. As is usually the case, winning tiles are replaced from above.
No random modifiers appear here such as mystery symbols but we do get an increasing multiplier in the base game for every winning action in the same play. This comes via the top scroll symbols which each spin are overlaid with 1, 2 or 3 scarabs. Each one you use will add 1x to the present multiplier for each scarab it has, so you could theoretically get up to 13 maximum i.e. 1+12.
Free Games
The final difference we have on Legend of Cleopatra Megaways slot is the method of feature trigger. Underneath the 4 top scrolling symbols is the word BONUS and we need to clear the top scroll to expose it and trigger 12 free games. Now this may sound easy but it's not, as the top 4 symbols do not move to the left when any are used and no more are added to the scroll from the right of it. These 4 symbols remain static each spin so for example to remove the rightmost one over reel 5, you would need a 5 or 6AOK win of that symbol. The good thing is that you will commence the free games with at least a 5x multiplier as that's the least you can get when removing the top 4 symbols and their 1-3 scarabs each. You don't get any scarabs in the free games but you do get an increasing multiplier now for each winning tumble which isn't reset between spins. Finally, if you clear the top scroll during them, you get +5 spins.
Our View...
Legend of Cleopatra Megaways slot looks plain and doesn't have great RTP at 95.56% either. It's frustrating trying to get the right symbols to cascade in in order to remove the final tile in the scroll to trigger the free spins too. When you do though, it's quite a good bonus and seldom pays poorly due to the headstart you get with the multiplier although retriggers are rare. The base game can produce some nice wins due to the scarab multipliers but always remember the free games is where the big potential lies here. It's Playson's first Megaways game and I say well worth a visit if you don't usually play their slots...
