Wu Long slot

Wu Long slot review

Wu Long SlotIn Chinese cuisine, Wu Long is a 'Black Dragon' tea.

Strange, then, that this 5-reeler from world famous slot developer Playtech neither has any images of tea, nor black dragons.

On the Reels...

Most Oriental-inspired slots are pretty affairs, and Wu Long is no different. The backdrop is a veritable feast of temples and Chinese fireworks, and animated symbols burst into life whenever you hit a winning combo. Meanwhile, there is some nice-enough Chinese music and gong sounds playing out whenever you win.

Win a Potential 2,500-Coin Jackpot

Other than the nice look and feel of the game, the biggest draw of Wu Long, perhaps, is the betting structure. Coins start at just $0.01 but go right up to $100.

Playing across all 25 paylines requires some serious outlay. Lucky, then, that the biggest-paying symbol - the temple arch - awards a nice 2,500 coin jackpot if you hit five across the reels. Elsewhere on the reels we get gongs and drums, Chinese girls with fans, a Chinese lantern and some Oriental-ish J-to-Ace icons.

The Dragon Head is Both Wild and Scattered

In this game, the Wild and Scatter are one - on this case, the colorful Dragon head. Not only does it substitute for all regular symbols, therefore, it also triggers the game's bonus feature.

The Dragon Head Can Trigger up to 12 Free Spins

Hit three or more Dragons on the reels and you will be awarded 12 free spins. Hit further Dragon icons during the free spins round, though, and you will activate a growing multiplier.

Earn up to a 6x Multiplier

One extra Dragon increases your multiplier to 2x, then to 4x, and then to 6x. Hit two at the same time, however, and your 1x multiplier grows to 4x, and your 2x and 4x to 6x - plus you win extra free spins.

This goes on, with three extra Dragons on-screen seeing your multiplier grow straight away to 6x and four free games, while four Dragons awards you a 6x multiplier and 8 free spins.

Finally, five Dragons on-screen during the bonus round will grow your multiplier to 6x and 12 free spins will be added to your spin total.

Our View...

While Wu Long only has the one bonus round, it certainly is among the most generous I've seen.

Although the free spins round is a little hard to trigger, once you do it delivers in spades. For a relatively small outlay I easily made 100x my total bet in one bonus round. (And with the Scatter being Wild too, I managed to trigger the bonus round by hitting a five of a kind for even more lovely cash!)

You pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to Oriental-themed online slots, so let's pluck out two for a nice Chinese takeaway: Microgaming's lush Oriental Fortune and the wonderful Geisha Wonders from Scandinavian-based NetEnt.
