Lion's Hoard slot by Red Tiger is relatively simple game which seems to have its mechanic based upon the old Microgaming slots in the Untamed Series like Giant Panda and Untamed Bengal Tiger. We have a darkened gold adorned treasure room behind the reels, valuables on them and some dramatic classical music, lion roars and sound effects here. Unlike say 5 Lions Gold slot we don't have a dedicated bonus round here, it's all in-play stuff alas. So can we hoard some gold for our bankroll here or will entering the jaws of the lion prove fruitless here?
On the reels...
You have 20 pay lines with 5 reels of 4 rows each on Lion's Hoard slot. Symbols are stacked and there are 20 pay lines with the 5-of-a-kinds of Crown 5x bet, Helmet 4x, Shield 3x, Swords 2.7x, Ring 2.1x and the 4 card suits ranging from 1.8x down to 0.6x. There are no scatters and Wild reels can only be created by the in-play collector feature. You get pays from left-to-right and right-to-left here as well.
Diamond Reels
You have a 4-bar Lion collector above each reel, to collect any Diamonds in which can randomly appear on the reels. Above the centre you get a single Lion's Hoard which needs only the Sapphire on reel 3 to activate. When 4 Diamonds are collected on any reel bar the middle, the reel will become a stacked mystery one or if Wilds are revealed, a Wild reel. These remain in place until they are used in a win. The Sapphire landing fills all 4 Lion reels at once and if any were full already, increases their multiplier by 1x. Any Diamond landing over the 4 necessary adds a 1x multiplier to its reel also. We are told 8160x is the top pay achieved in testing.
Our View...
With a 95.77% RTP Lion's Hoard slot looks and sounds nice but the low win frequency and tedium of dead spins seriously detracts from the player experience. It's also frustrating watching the activated mystery or Wild reels count in wins before you've saved up say 3 or 4 for the better hits. The exception to this is the Sapphire which activates all 4 Lion reels at once, is quite rare and relies on good symbols landing on reel 3. If you see the image, it mostly produces pathetic wins like that! I'm going to leave the lion to his hoarding and will not bother him again...
