Troll’s Bridge slot brings us back to childhood, as many Scandinavian Games do, with an old folk tale from Norway you may have heard when younger – De tre bukkene Bruse. OK, sorry if I’ve baffled you there so I’ll repeat that in English: Three Billy Goats Gruff and surely now your memories have been rekindled! If they haven’t you’ll notice the wooden stakes that surround the drawbridge which of course is up thanks to the nasty Troll, but it gives us a background for the transparent reels along with sinister music to enhance your cautious mood when faced with this barrier. This Troll doesn’t hang out on the internet behind a keyboard but right under this very bridge, so what price will he exact from your bankroll in order to get across?
On the reels…
This chap may be mad because he has been targeted by Play’n Go’s Troll Hunters in the past or just simply doesn’t want to be nice like his brethren in Netent’s Trolls game. Who knows, but to get any rewards here we have to tackle his 20 pay lines over 5 reels and 3 rows and he will reward you with 10x bet for a 5-of-a-kind win, but less for his relatives of which the purple, green and blue pay 7, 6 and 5x respectively for 5. The card symbols will give 2 to 3x bet and Wilds will pay the top icon for a full line. These are based on 25 coins a spin, although you can pay just 20 but you will get one less enhancement which could cost you in the bonus, as we’ll see.
If you see three or more Gold Troll scatters land, you will be given 6 free spins with 3 picks, 8 spins with 4 picks and 10 spins with 5 picks should you land all 5 scatters. Now this is where the 25 coins comes in – if you bet this amount you get an extra pick when triggering the free games, so add one pick to those above. You will be presented with 18 Gold cards to choose from with your available picks. So assuming you’ve bet 25 coins you will get at least 4 of the following enhancements:
2 or 3 extra Free Spins
2x multiplier on all wins
1 or 2 Wilds randomly placed each spin
1 sticky wild in the middle position on the second, third or fourth reel
Highest or second or third or fourth highest paying Troll acts as a Wild
Highest or second or third or fourth highest paying Troll becomes stacked on the reels
You then commence the spins with your combination of benefits in place for all spins and obviously there can be no retrigger.
Troll’s Bridge slot has great visuals and surely will appeal to fans of Netent’s Secrets of The Stones slot which has a similar method of combining enhancements via picks before free games commence. Yes, the graphics are slightly juvenile but then again it is based on an old tale meant to be read to children but also remembered by adults! I have based this review on paying the full 25 coins and indeed I would recommend this, the maximum 96.30% RTP is obtained like that according to the rules although only a tiny bit lower if you stake 20. Wilds appear frequently in the base game thus wins do too so it’s not a balance buster. It may have been the Troll’s intention to eat my bankroll, but he went hungry this time…
