European gambling is experiencing a fundamental shift toward mobile platforms, with smartphones and tablets expected to command the majority of market activity. Current figures show mobile devices already drive more than half of online revenue, a share predicted to reach 67% by 2029.

Age Gap

A clear generational schism defines device preference. Data confirms that over three-quarters of younger bettors aged 18-24 primarily use smartphones. This contrasts sharply with the 65-plus demographic, where fewer than 15% engage in mobile gambling.

Market Divergence

Adoption rates vary significantly across the continent. Nordic nations lead digitally, with nearly seven in ten gambling activities occurring online, heavily driven by mobile. While markets like Spain show robust growth, Germany’s online segment remains underdeveloped at just 22.6% penetration, constrained by regulatory frameworks. Concurrently, the use of player protection tools is rising, reaching 65% in 2024.
