Fire and Steel slot summary
Fire and Steel slot is an eye catcher from the very start with Betsoft's trademark HD graphics and detailed artwork - for this they are second to none as a developer and this is no exception. You are met with a fantasy landscape with the male and female warriors guarding the sides of the reels in a theme similar to that of Microgaming's Game of Thrones slot, but with a bit more colour here! Can our money survive a journey to this mystical land, or will it be a case of Fire and Steal?
On the reels...
The reel set is deceptive because it mirrors the 3-4-5-4-3 pattern of 720-way slots like Wild Rockets and Siberian Storm, yet we only have 20 pay lines albeit paying both ways. The icons aren't fully stacked but can appear twice on each reel although we really need to be concerned with the two characters of the Swordsman and Shieldmaiden as they are expanding Wilds and can appear on all reels.
The Swordsman expands vertically up or down whichever way will fill most positions and the Shieldmaiden does likewise but horizontally. You get 25x bet for a 5-of-a-kind of either of these characters and/or the Wilds they create. The Red Crowns pay 12.5x your 20 coin stake, Blue or Yellow Shields 7.5x with Book, goblet, Helmet and Dagger offering 5 down to 2.5x bet for a full line. There are 5 different gems paying either 30 or 20 coins too, so we have an extraordinary number of different icons for one slot!
War of The Wilds
To trigger free spins there are no scatters but we need to land both the Swordsman and Shieldmaiden on the same spin - should their expanding Wilds cross then you trigger 10 free games and the position they crossed on becomes a sticky Wild for the duration. You can retrigger them once more and should this occur you'd end up with another sticky Wild on the reels from the new crossover position. No multipliers or other enhancements but it appears Wilds are more frequent than usual.
Our View...
Fire and Steel slot is spectacular to play and view with unique mechanics but suffers the same as many other Betsoft games: the volatility or math model makes the slot very difficult to win a decent sum from due to the lowish pays and rarity of any wins which pay for example over 100x bet. Your RTP is a respectable 95% but you may find your balance treading water when you play, as well as the free games being quite hard to trigger. Fire and Steel has been made to look very good but as for this War of The Wilds, I'm not sure I care who wins...
