Little Dragons slot frankly depressed me when I saw it for the first time. Immediately the juvenile dragon icons became apparent, even worse than the coloured dragons on Microgaming's Dragonz slot, as these look like those crossed with cartoon kittens. We get 243-ways on this grid of 5 reels and 3 rows with single symbols. The usual Novomatic card values make up the lowest awards with either 8, 6 or 4x our 25-coin bet for a 5-of-a-kind (5OAK) win. The Dragons provide the higher pays at 32, 20, 16 and 12x bet for the Purple, Orange, Green and Pink Dragon icon respectively. As the game logo suggests there is a Ying-Yang icon which is the game's Wild and only appears on reels 2 and 4. If you get just one form part of a win it awards a 2x multiplier whereas both in play will multiply any wins 4x.
Right, when I said earlier the game redeemed itself it is because I soon realized that it's based on one of my personal favourite slots that has long gone from online play in the UK and Europe. If I just mention this fact first, you may guess which it is: there are scatters on all reels in the form of Gold Cups and you need to land 3 or more on consecutive reels from left to right and the final clue is that the Wild actually substitutes for the scatter if appearing on reel 2 which is highly unusual nowadays.
Ok, here's the spoiler - the game is essentially a rework of IGT's classic high-volatility slot Triple Fortune Dragon with a subtle difference. When you were awarded the 15 free games on that one, there was just a simple higher frequency of the the 3x Wilds on reels 2 and 4 for a better chance of 3x or 9x wins. Here we have the same 15 free games which can be retriggered but you get random multipliers for wins including one or both Wilds. Should you see just one Wild in play it will award either a 3, 4 or 5x multiplier. Get both and you will earn either a 9, 16 or 25x multiplier. Given the top paying 5OAK is 32x that means a potential 800x stake for just one winning way on any given free spin!
Little Dragons slot is a hotly volatile as the Dragon's breath in keeping with the game it's based upon. This somewhat belies the childish appearance it has hence why I stated in the introduction that I was quite surprised by it! Usually these sort of graphics would irritate me but I know how good the bonus spins can be when you get them, which isn't too frequently but they seldom pay paltry amounts as you may expect. Like the old IGT game retriggers are quite frequent too and significant wins can be racked up but don't expect too much from the base game. The RTP is typical for Novomatic at just over 95.05% and rest assured I'll be back to see if those Little Dragons can fire me one of their BIG wins...
