Dragon's Fire slot is not a surprising release from Red Tiger, a developer that is heavily influenced by Oriental themes in their slots as we have seen numerous times with titles such as Dragon's Luck, Golden Toad, Lion Dance and Jade Charms. What we do get though is a very different and refreshing mechanic here although we still retain the Red Tiger 'springy' sound as we start and stop each spin. The appearance is quite nice with bright symbols on a black background and some loud and spectacular effects happen when the random feature occurs or certain wins land. I get the feeling Dragon's Fire is quite volatile, so can we keep the heat off of our bankroll here?
You get 40 paying lines over 5 reels of 4 rows each and icons appear stacked or single in varying quantities. You stake 20 coins to play and the Eye is the top pay at 5x bet for a full 5-of-a-kind win. Gold, Red, Green and Blue Dragons pay 3, 2.5, 2 and 1.5x respectively and we have 4 gems paying 1x down to 0.4x in order. I mentioned some random features, and here is how we get any Wilds as they don't appear on the reels. On any spin the Dragon on the left may roar into life and add 2 to 5 Wild reels to the grid in a storm of fire and these pay the same as the Eye symbol above.
The game also features an increasing multiplier via the dragon's Egg sitting by reels 5. Any win is paid normally then if you win again next spin a multiplier is applied of 2x and so-on. This multiplier can jump by more than 1x and this brings us to our fire-breathing friend's final trick. On any spin he may fire a 10x extra multiplier into the egg which may or may not be used on the next spin, depending on whether a win appears.
There are scatters on all the reels and again our fire-breathing friend may roar onto reels 1 and 2 to add a scatter with the remaining reels spinning as usual to see if that elusive third scatter drops in. If you get 2 scatters without this, he may breathe flame onto any tile and create your third scatter too.
Once 3 scatters have appeared you will select a Golden Dragon and be given 5 to 18 free spins. You can retrigger these and the Dragon appears more frequently, so with a maximum 50x multiplier in play should you get the full screen of Dragon's Eyes or random Wild reels there is potential for a win of 10,000x bet as a maximum! It's an entertaining bonus but in keeping with Red Tiger's recent games such as Laser Fruit and Tiki Fruits getting a lot of free spins seems to result in a lot of dead ones too.
Dragon's Fire slot is good to look at but due to the built-in base game multiplier wins can be quite irregular with many dead spins. You do however see the Dragon appear very frequently and the visual effects and sounds when he does are certainly noticeable, especially when the whole grid vibrates and shakes! The RTP is 96.07% and the game is confirmed by Red Tiger as being 'quite volatile' and my experience certainly confirms that fact too. There is potential in the base game but for those really big hits you'll need to be in the free spins bonus and this is usually worth waiting for. I am certainly planning to pay this Dragon another visit to see if I can douse his flames...
