Night Roller slot by Red Tiger features a gambling pig in an urban background attempting to win himself and us some money! To that end, the surround to reels is a feature board which is always active and is the attraction of an otherwise mundane collection of symbols and sounds. The first game this reminded me of was Betsoft's old Mr. Vegas slot although there's elements of both Netent's Piggy Riches slot and Big Time Gaming's Holy Diver slot when you actually look into things a bit further. So can we get a decent roll added to our cash here or will it be thank-you and goodnight?
On the reels...
We have 5 reels of 5 rows each and 30 pay lines to begin with on Night Roller slot along with stacked symbols. The 5-of-a-kind pays are very low at 2.5x stake Diamonds, 1x Ring, 1.4x Cash Bag, 1.1x Bill Stacks, 0.9x Wallet with four card suits of 0.8 down to 0.3x for any full line of five. Symbols are stacked and we don't get any scatters or Wilds in the standard base game either, although Wilds can be added from the board and pay 3x for a full line of 5. This game is all about the Die which can land on any of the reels.
Every time a Die lands it will roll 1-6 on the next paid spin and move the Pig around the permanent board outside of the reels. This is where you collect any modifiers or features. Most squares are simple and very small cash awards but every few squares comes a modifier:
Bomb - removes all low-value symbols every paid spin until the Die appears again.
Life is Golden - adds numerous Gold Wilds to the reels every paid spin until the Die lands again on the main reels.
Coin It - a low multiple of stake, 0.1 to 3x, resets the position when the next Die lands.
Multipliers - can be 2,3 or 5x and apply to each paid spin until the Die reappears.
Spin Out (Free Spins)
You get 10 of these for landing on the position of the board necessary in the base game as above. You now get the Die active every spin and any modifiers collected will all apply together for all subsequent spins. In the case of more than one multiplier collected, these are added up and landing on the free games square again will award +5 spins. Apparently over 5,000x bet is possible here.
Night Roller slot has a RTP of 95.68% and its mediocre appearance and soundtrack aside, it's terrible. This is a shame as it could've been a good game done differently. The line pays in the base game are very low and add that to a low win frequency and you have a disaster. So what about the Die landing? Well, this comes in about every 20-odd spins and even then this very slow progress around the board is dire unless you land the Wilds feature. There's 20 positions on the board and it's so annoying getting within 6 spaces of the free games square (eventually!) and missing them, knowing you'll take about another 50-100 spins to get another chance of being near enough to land on it. Just take my advice - day or night, roll yourself as far away from this slot as possible...
