Sails of Fortune slot by Relax Gaming looked to me pretty dreary as soon as I opened it up and it transpired I wasn't wrong. A typical wooden pirate ship as the background, wooden reels and sea shanty music is the best stereotypical appearance they could give this wooden game. Mind you, Relax Gaming aren't unique in making some dire pirate-themed games as we have seen with Red Tiger's execrable Piggy Pirates slot, Yggdrasils slightly less bad Pirates Smuggler’s Paradise slot or scraping the rum barrel, look at Nextgen's Wild Plunder slot. We initially get 243-ways to win here over 5 reels of 3 rows on Sails of Fortune slot. Your symbols can appear stacked with no Wilds at all and 5-of-a-kind pays are 8x stake Pirate, 5x Lady Pirate, 3x Harpoon, 2x Bottle, 1.5x Fish and 4 card suits all paying 1x for each full way. You can get Key scatters on all reels and mystery symbols too. These are actually Walking Mystery symbols which trigger re-spins and move one reel left each spin until the last one disappears. They may or may not help to create wins as they change each time they move a reel.
Free Games
You get 8 free games for each Key scatter and +1 for any in excess of the three. Now any mystery symbols will expand to fill the reel and move left a reel each re-spin. You can also land a Treasure Chest randomly on reel 5 now, and each time it lands it will fill a meter on the left. Each 3 appearances, any mystery symbols appearing thereafter will raise to 4 rows high and so-on up to a maximum of 6 rows high. Sails of Fortune slot has a 96.17% RTP and the feature can be purchased for 70x bet in some jurisdictions. The base game is dull and uninteresting, seldom awarding big wins or decent trains of mystery symbols. The free games are more interesting and not difficult to trigger although again they are usually disappointing because it's obvious from the first 2 or 3 spins if they are going to pay or not. So I'm sorry, but for me this game is just 'fails of fortune'...
