Hardwell slot from Stake Logic is a high energy dance music inspired game. Electronic disco beats bounce along in the background as you spin a dark reel set with lots of neon symbols. Dutch-born DJ Hardwell has put branding and created original music for this slot. Before writing this review, I knew nothing about this DJ, other than his name sounded a bit like a product for treating erectile dysfunction - it’s nothing to do with that by the way. However, I have learned that this music producer and DJ is one of the top performers in the world, having been voted the ‘world’s best DJ’ in 2013 and 2014 by DJ Mag. So can this box-office DJ prove to be uplifting for our bankroll or will we ultimately be left on a big come down?
On the reels…
The slot is a standard 5 reel, 3 row, 25 fixed payline title. Top paying picture symbol is DJ Hardwell himself, paying 20x for 5-of-a-kind (5OAK). The speakers, turn-table and headphones will pay between 12-8x for a 5OAK. The smaller paying symbols are the neon fruit, with water melons, plus, oranges, lemons and cherries all appearing. The Wilds in this slot are only found on reel 2 and 4 and can replace all symbols except the bonus scatters.
Super Spin feature
This random base game feature will lock standard symbols in place whilst the reels re-spin. The re-spins will keep going until no more matching symbols appear. Should Gold Discs appear and lock in place then you will see between 8-15 slowly appear. They are turned into a standard symbol and can unlock some really good rewards.
Hardwell free spins
If you manage to land 2 or 3 bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 then you will trigger the Hardwell free spins feature. You will initially be rewarded with 10 free spins, with retriggers available for 1 or more bonus scatters. You then choose from 4 Mystery Symbols which will deliver a mystery reel upgrade. They are as follows:
Win Multiplier – This will increase wins by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x
Win Both Ways – As it suggests, wins can form both from left to right and right to left
Wild Fruit – 1 of the fruit symbols is chosen at random and when it lands on the middle reel it will turn Wild
Expanding Wilds – Any Wild landing on reels 2 and 4 will expand covering the whole reel
Our View...
Hardwell slot looks to be something aimed at a very selective audience and that is definitely not me. From its monotonous electronic backing track anthem to the low volatility gameplay, it offers a casual gaming experience that you might try out of pure intrigue. This theme didn't really work for me when I gave Elk Studios' DJ Wild or Playtech's Wild Beats a go and it hasn't been improved with this effort. I would say of all the features in the game, the Super Spins is the stand out one, but it is still rare that it will pay you big. The RTP on this slot is 96.04%, which is good, but wins are likely to be frequent and small. Personally this high-octane electronic dance music fest of this slot looks destined to be left in the record bag (assuming they still exist).
