Hades Gigablox by Yggdrasil is the second game to use this mechanic, following on from their Lucky Neko Gigablox slot. The theme is macabre about Hades (the underworld) with horror soundbites, a misty temple cave as the background with the reels framed in skulls and demons. The scary music completes our scene here and we're into Novomatic's Haul of Hades territory here rather than the softened-down graphics of Red Tiger's Devil's Number slot. So will Hades prove to be heaven, or hell on Earth for our bankroll?
We have a 6x6 grid of individual tiles which can fall single or stacked on Hades Gigablox slot. You get the feature that gives the game it's name with block symbols falling every spin which can be 2x2 right up to a possible 6x6 full-screen one. The 6-of-a-kind pays are Red Monster 8x bet, Green 6x, Purple or Blue 4x with four card suits all paying 2x for a full line of 6. You get 50 pay lines here and Wilds are only created when Hades randomly fights the Monster symbols on the grid, turning any he defeats into Wilds including any block symbols present. Your final symbol is the Demon Scatter which can also land as a block tile.
You need 5 or more Demon scatters to trigger them and get 1 spin for each one in the triggering spin. You also earn 1 extra spin in the bonus for each one landing. You may have guessed that Hades now battles the monsters on every spin, creating Wilds. You now see a scale to the left of the grid and each Wild created will add 1 to the meter. When 10 is reached, you get +2 spins and the round multiplier goes to 2. Get another 15 and you go to 3x with 2 more spins, another 20 and it's 5x and finally another 25 it's 10 for the round. Good luck with getting anywhere near the 5x, let alone the 10x!! We are told thousands times bet is possible here, presumably by getting a full screen high symbol on the 10x in free games.
You cannot argue with the graphics and animations here which are of the usual Yggdrasil high standard. The annoyance is the constant utterances of Hades which consist mainly of grunts on near-misses as if he has constipation issues, and other inanities about needing new furniture etc. Humour has been tried here, but as Yggdrasil are Swedish it has failed miserably. You can't win much in the base game without the arrival of 4x4 blocks or better and they aren't common. The free games can pay, but like Vikings Go Berzerk slot, the frustration is seeing loads of Monster symbols attacked and very few turned Wild. Your RTP is 96.00% and that's distinctly average, just like our Hades here...
