Online slots set to launch in Spain
Online slots have been given the green light to launch in the Spanish market it was confirmed this week.
The long-anticipated approval for online gaming in Spain to be given the go ahead by the country’s regulatory body, Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), was finally announced.
It has been confirmed that the regulatory body will work towards a 2015 launch date for online gaming in Spain and operators now have 30 days to apply for licensing and there has been no indication that there will be a limit on the number of licences that are up for grabs.
There has been a period of public consultation that has been ongoing since the beginning of this year and the DGOJ held a briefing last Tuesday with certification bodies, regulatory authorities and online operators to push through the final details.
Despite concerns coming from land-based operators, the DGOJ decided that regulated and correctly policed online gaming was the most appropriate way to combat illegal online gaming in the region.
