Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW), the owner of Chumba Casino, has announced plans to withdraw its sweepstakes casino brands from the Canadian market. The company said the exit will be phased over the coming months, with a complete withdrawal scheduled for October 23, 2025.

In a message to their Canadian customers, Chumba Casino announced the exit date from the country and the reasons why this was happening.

Regulatory issues

The decision comes amid wider turbulence in the sweepstakes casino sector. In California, Chumba Casino recently removed Playtech titles from its games library after the software giant pulled its products from the platform. The move follows Pragmatic Play’s announcement that it would no longer supply games to U.S.-based sweepstakes casinos.

Lawsuits

These developments arrive just weeks after a landmark lawsuit was filed in California against Stake.us, streaming platform Kick, and several gaming vendors. The legal action has heightened scrutiny of sweepstakes casinos, which operate in a regulatory gray area by offering social casino-style games where players can participate without directly wagering money, but still have opportunities to win cash prizes.

Chumba Casino is one of the most prominent operators in the space, but the recent wave of withdrawals suggests major suppliers and platforms are reassessing their exposure to the U.S. and Canadian sweepstakes casino markets.
