Napoleon and Josephine slot has been very popular in land-based casinos in North America for several years and has now made the transition to online gaming, as their best slots inevitably do such as Raging Rhino, Kronos and Ruby Slippers. The historical theme is rare and aside from Nextgen's rather inane Napoloen Boney Parts there is little that comes close to the subject. The transparent reels spin over a backdrop of the Palace of Versailles with its beautiful fountains and we get the trademark WMS 'chimes-and-swoosh' which you will immediately recognize if you've played Bruce Lee for example. On the reels...
For once we have a relatively simple mechanic here instead of the complex rules of some recent WMS releases, possibly because it began in the bricks and mortar casinos. You pay 50 coins for 50 paying lines over a grid of 5 reels and 4 rows. Icons appear stacked except for the Josephine scatters along with the Cannon Wilds which only appear on the centre 3 reels. Napoleon appears up to 4 rows high and is the best pay at 15x bet for 5-of-a-kind which is good because unlike the rest he pays both right-to-left and left-to-right so as well as getting a nice animation for a full-reel Napoleon win, you could see the top award of 750x bet for the full screen!
The remainder of the pays are 10x bet for a full line of Versailles Palace or Stagecoach, 6x for the Tiara, Medal or Necklace and finally the 4 card suits all at 3x stake. Like WMS' Kronos, expect a slow dramatic spin if the premium icon Napoleon lands on reels 1 and 2!
Josephine's free games
Now Josephine has an enviable jewellery collection and may well add some sparkle to your free games trigger, because she may randomly be overlaid with +2, 5, 10, 20 or 50. This can be very significant as you get 10, 20 or 50 spins for 3, 4 or 5 scatters respectively and those overlay numbers are added to the initial free games won. So imagine a 5-scatter trigger all overlaid with +50 - yes, a colossal 300 free games would be yours! There are no multipliers but you do benefit from now having stacked Wilds on the centre 3 reels plus they can be retriggered the same ways as above. If you're going to see the big Napoleon wins, now's the time.
Our View...
Napoleon and Josephine slot is popular in land-based casinos for a reason i.e. it's a good game with nice graphics and gentle sounds along with big potential. It was inevitable therefore that we'd see the online version and with it they have given us a large 97.03% RTP too. The both-way Napoleon pays is a nice touch as it means your spin is not necessarily over after the first two reels stop and we mustn't forget Josephine and her possibly huge number of free games. This is one slot that should never be exiled to St. Helena...
