Double Stacks slot is a strange combination of retro and modern that has a very simple mechanic. Don't worry, despite the stacked icons and naff music we haven't another Starburst here although admittedly it may well appeal to players of that game. The appearance is rather like iSoftbet's Super Fast Hot Hot Respin and indeed most of those symbols are present here too although there is considerably more potential on Double Stacks. The game is basic looking with a dark background and limited animations rather like Joker Pro but will it end up taking a double stack from our bankroll?
On the reels...
There are 10 pay lines over 5 reels of 3 rows each and only the top 4 icons are fully stacked but alas not the Wild. Should any of those top symbols appear fully stacked they will split into double icons on any reel so I have the unusual task of listing the pays for a 10-of-a-kind win here! They are 100x bet for the Diamonds, 50x 7's, 25x Bars and 10x Bells. The remaining symbols are the fruits Lemon, Cherry, Melon and Plum which pay 2x bet for a 5-of-a-kind win in the base game but can actually give 6x bet for 9-of-a-kind in the bonus. Confused? Don't be, it's just that the Wild can appear fully stacked in the bonus so 4 full reels stacked with one fruit would create a line of 9.
Free spins bonus
Three or more scatters imaginatively named 'scatter' in view will trigger no pays but 5, 15 or 30 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 respectively. They can retrigger with the addition that just 2 scatters will award 2 extra spins. As said above when I gave the game away, the enhancement here is that now the Wild appears stacked too and as with the top 4 icons will split to a double if landing fully in view, hence the 9-of-a-kind possibility on wins now.
The maximum win for a full screen depends on your bet of course, but above the reels the pays possible for a screen full of the 4 top symbols are displayed and change with your stake. Diamonds is 1000x bet and this is where I guess the underlying maths model is very similar to that of Joker Pro.

Double Stacks slot is really a variation of the Joker Pro model but visually a little more entertaining and with a higher win frequency. I'd say it's better in some ways due to the fact we get a free spins bonus which can provide some beefy wins when the Wilds appear but other than that it is what it is - a low tech game of low to medium in variance. The RTP is a pretty average 96.10% and the design along with the theme results in limited effects and animations but that's not really what the game is about. Would I return to Double Stacks in double quick time? Quite possibly...
