Codex of Fortune slot summary
Codex of Fortune slot by Netent uses one of my favourite themes, made famous by the novel The Da Vinci Code. You see a large Codex device at the left, stained glass background with mysterious music and sound effects to finish the overall feel. There have been a few previous Codex slots, perhaps the best being Da Vinci's Mystery Super Lines slot by Red Tiger although Leander's Codex slot isn't bad as is Vault of Fortune slot from Yggdrasil. So can we decode some winnings here for our bankroll or will it prove to be unbreakable?
On the reels...
You get 40 pay lines with stacked symbols over 5 reels of 4 rows on Codex of Fortune slot. The 5-of-a-kind pays range from 10x bet for the Lion down to 3x for the Shell as premium symbols and 2x down to 1x for the 4 card values. Wild Butterflies can appear anywhere and Peacock scatters on the odd reels. There are no random modifiers but if you land just 2 scatters in conjunction with any win, you get Fortune Re-spins. This saves the winning symbols and only they or blanks appear but only 1 life is given! Each re-spin though, the winning line gets paid over and over. Once 5 symbols are landed, you move up the Codex one level. In this feature, your Codex always starts on the lowest level and these amounts are quoted in the bonus section. You can land a Key during these re-spins, which will raise the Codex to the next level or you can 'save' it for the free games and use it then.
Fortune Wins
You need all 3 scatters here and the reels are now normal. If a win occurs landing the scatters, you will play the Fortune Re-spins before the Fortune Wins begin. First you see a Wheel which awards 7-13 spins, the symbol you need for filling meters and 0, 1 or 2 extra Keys. You have 7 Codex levels and these each have 5 segments which you unlock by collecting your nominated symbol as indicated in the meter by the Codex. Get to the top, move up a level or landing a Key does the same. You can also now land +10 symbols which help fill the meter up as they need 20 symbols rather than 5 in the Fortune re-spins. You can use any Keys saved up from the Fortune re-spins before the round starts so may start from a higher level. Level one has prizes times bet of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 150x bet whereas level 7 is 100, 300, 500, 2,000 and 10,000x stake! Each scatter landing during the bonus adds +1 spin.

Codex of Fortune slot has a RTP of 90.20% to 98.00% with the optimal strategy being to save at least 3 keys for the Fortune Wins before choosing to activate them. It's not a bad game to watch and play but you'll seldom see much from anything in the base game of over 30x and the same goes for the Fortune Re-spins. The best chance of anything big is in the Fortune Wins free games, and these are usually over very fast with not much to show, even if you do save 3+ keys! You would have to be one brilliant code breaker to crack this game with your money...
