The online gaming company Amaya Inc. is primarily known for being a poker software company and owner of some of the world most popular poker sites. However, they are also heavily involved in casino software and online slot games. Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Amaya Inc. was founded in 2004. Two years later the company made David Baazov CEO and he is understood to have played a large part in turning the small fledgling software company into a globally recognized business in the gambling sector. He has since stood down as CEO of the company after becoming embroiled in an insider trading scandal that has dogged the company during 2016.
Possibly the most notable acquisition by Amaya Inc. was made in August 2014, when they took over the Rational Group, which included poker brands Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker. These two brands, were arguably the most well known in online poker, but also heavily caught up in various issues with taking US bets post UIGEA.
Along with the Rational Group, Amaya also swept up several other gaming companies, including casino software firms OnGame and Cryptologic. All of the assets of these companies have been rebranded as Amaya and only long term casino players will remember that they ever existed. Many of the most popular titles from Cryptologic’s inventory such as the DC Comic slots like The Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman are still very popular and can be found in lots of online casinos. However, many other slots have been dropped and will unlikely be available for real money ever again.
