The Japanese company Konami is probably best known for producing some of the world best known amusement arcade games. Titles like Frogger, Super Cobra and Scramble are just a few of their hugely successful games that a whole generation of kids grew up with during the 80’s. However, this company has many strings to its bow and has had involvement in almost every form of gaming entertainment.

The company’s move into slot machines wasn’t until 1997, when Konami Gaming, Inc was established. It was clear from the start that Konami’s rich knowledge of gaming technology and player psychology would  be key to them producing some very popular video slots. Back then there were only a few competitors in the market, such as the fast-growing IGT and the up and coming WMS.  This meant Konami Gaming was able to grow quickly and soon found opportunities to expand into North America and Australia.

Many of Konami’s slot game titles include an oriental themes, examples being China Reels, Dragon Fever, Rising Sun and Eastern Charm. This probably lends itself to the fact that the business has Asian roots and that this is a very popular theme for slot games. Their total slot machine portfolio is close to 400, with a wide range of 3 reel, 5 reel slots in either video or stepper format.

Konami hold the license for the slot machine rights to the Rocky movie franchise. Their title Rocky Balboa is much loved for its Sylvester Stallone voiceover’s during the game and footage from the actual films. One of their most loved titles is Dungeons & Dragons, which has been installed in casinos all over the globe. This jackpot linked slot can regularly be found in banks of 4 or 5 cabinets together, such is its popularity.

In more recent times Konami Gaming have turned their attentions to the lucrative online slots market. In 2014 they started to roll out a small number of online slot titles through an alliance with igaming experts GameAccount. The first of these was the oriental-themed China Shores, which has been a massive hit as a land-based casino slot machine. It will be followed by a number of top titles which have historically performed well in casinos around the world.

Konami have also made a foray into social through a strategic partnership with myVegas. Slots from the Konami portfolio are available through the myVegas app and can be played in both for free or using credits. The first game to go live was China Mystery in November 2014 and several more are expected to follow.
