Barcrest are best known for being a slot machine maker in the UK, with their cabinets available in pubs, clubs, casinos and fish and chip shops around the British Isles. They started life in 1968 and grew into one of the biggest slot machine companies in Europe, eventually attracting the attentions of gaming giant IGT, who bought the company in 1998.
Following the purchase, some of Barcrest’s slot machines gained popularity in the bricks and mortar casinos in the US, in particular in Las Vegas.
As online slots started to take off across the globe, Barcrest recreated many of their popular land-based titles for the internet age. In 2011 this attracted the attention of Scientific Games (rebranded to Light & Wonder), who purchased Barcrest from competitor IGT. They took hold of their portfolio of slots and made sure they were all compatible for the various devices for accessing the web, such as mobile, tablets, and laptops.
Arguably the most popular slot game in the Barcrest portfolio is Rainbow Riches. This Irish-themed slot was incredibly successful in both online and land-based casinos. There were countless spin-offs of the original Rainbow Riches slot, with many still being released to this day.
