MegaBoy slot is iSoftbet’s contribution to the retro graphics theme which includes some notable titles such as Pariplay’s Atari Asteroids and Thunderkick’s Arcader along with their Flame Busters one too. This game clearly uses the old Nintendo 1990’s Super Mario console game as its inspiration with the reels set over a night scene that will remind you of one from Mario and the sounds and music are pretty similar too. The graphics and animations are deliberately low on pixels to complete the effect, so have iSoftbet brought us MegaBoy to give mega joy to our bankroll?
On the reels…
The usual 5 reels of 3 rows each have 25 pay lines and you’ll see the icons are old fruit machine ones, stacked in some cases two or three rows high. You see a ‘normal’ single Wild on all reels and these pay the same as the top one which is unusually the Cherry at 80x bet for a 5-of-a-kind win. Hearts pay 40x, Stars 24x, bells 20x and the 7 16x for a full line. The card icons of which there are five pay from 12x down to 5x for the 10’s. There is a special Wild Card on reel and if you’re wondering why there is a locked meter on the top left and top right of the reels then the bonus will explain it!
If the Wild card lands on the bottom or top row of reel 3 then it is simply a Wild, but you’ll notice a card-shaped space on the background behind reel 3 and this is filled when the Wild Card lands only in the centre position. You have a Brown character and a Purple one on the respective meters left and right labelled Level 1 and Level 2. The Wild card spins and will reveal one of the two characters and that means your next 10 spins will take place with the enhancements available on whichever Level Meter the card reveals. The 10 spins aren’t free, you pay for each the same as you do when the Wishes are present on Netent’s Wishmaster, also there’s no guarantee each spin will actually get an award as there is a spinning row in the meter which may stop on a blank or an enhancement.
The enhancements in Megaboy slot are s follows:
Level 1 Power Up – the 5 card values all become fully-stacked with no singles or doubles, 2x multiplier added to reels always when a win is present, expanding Wild which adds one above/below/left/right of it to make a cross, any Wilds on the grid will expand to fill the reel and finally a normal symbol will be selected to become Wild after the spin.
Level 2 Power Up – highest 5 symbols all become fully-stacked with no singles or doubles, 3x multiplier added to reels always when a win is present, expanding Wild which adds one to each diagonal of it to make an ‘X’, any Wilds on the grid will expand horizontally left and right and finally a quantity of random positions will be selected to become Wild after the spin.
You can’t retrigger this and again, there’s no guarantee of any enhancement on each spin!
MegaBoy slot is quite absorbing to play and despite the retro appearance the line wins are quite decent and you do have the potential to get multiples in the Level ups with the expanding Wilds and stacked symbols. The graphics and animations are moot really seeing as we’re looking at a tribute to 1990’s game consoles and the RTP is 95.47% so not too bad either. You’ll get the level-up spins quite frequently although it can be frustrating when several consecutive ones don’t land on an enhancement on the meter, but of course the opposite can happen too. I will happily confirm that I enjoyed my trip back to the 1990’s and more importantly so did my balance…
