Secret of the Stones Max slot by Netent has been created on the back of the original Secret of the Stones slot which credit where due is one of their better releases and quite popular. All this game does is offer the player the Max or in other words highly volatile option. Unlike their Dead or Alive 2 which achieves this via 3 different feature choices, here you choose the original game with 2,500x potential of the far more volatile Max version with 25,000x potential. For your trouble you get a red background behind the rocky reels but the same Viking rune style symbols as before, as is the gentle epic music. So will this game max our bankroll or crush it beneath those heavy stones?
On The Reels...
There are no modifiers here and the symbols are the same for both game options on Secret of the Stones Max slot. The pays though are far higher for the Max version so I will list those before the standard and they are single except for Wilds which can be full-reel in the bonus. The 5-of-a-kinds are Deer or Wild 160x bet Max and 50x Standard, Owl 50/30x Bull 32/20x, Wolf 141/2, Snake 10/8 with five card values (the same for both versions) of 6 down to 2x for a full line. Your last symbol is the Tree of Life scatter.

You get 10 free games which cannot retrigger for 3, 4 or 5 scatters. You then get to choose from 20 Stones once for each triggering scatter. You can get any of the following modifiers of which the Max version is listed second:

This feature can pay very well in the normal version but you can see the possibilities for a 5-scatter trigger in the Max version. You could theoretically get reels 2,3,4 Wild with the other two Stones offering a 3x multiplier for 10 spins at 6x with all centre positions Wild! This is presumably how you'd have the best chance of racking up 25,000x bet.
Our View...
Secret of the Stones Max slot is a definite choice for those who liked the excellent original and they get that here plus a chance to play for some enormous bonuses. The game has one of the best bonus mechanics created plus you have excellent sound effects, music, graphics and animations. Despite the potential of the bonus, it triggers relatively frequently on both versions and is seldom disappointing and downright exciting when you get a couple of Wild reels and an extra Wild or multiplier. The RTP is 96.81% for the Max and 96.72% original version so both are quite good too in that regard. This is one slot you'd have to have a heart of stone not to like...
