The Wild Machine slot by Pragmatic Play, well let's hope it does what it says on the tin as we know Wilds normally mean cash! The theme is the old one of a zany professor in his dark lab full of potions and gizmos along with funny noises and crazy music as we spin the rickety old reels. If you are into these games you could well have seen Microgaming's old Dr Watt's Up and the far more polished Nikola Tesla's Incredible Machine slot by Yggdrasil. Personally Miles Bellhouse and His Curious Machine by not-so reputable developer Betsoft is my favourite but alas the casinos that offer it are no longer that trustworthy. On The Reels...
The first thing that strikes you on The Wild Machine slot is 4 portals on each edge of the 5x5 grid offering 40 fixed pay lines. We'll get to those later, but for now we have stacked symbols including Wilds and the 7-of-a-kinds (you'll see why 7OAK shortly) can pay well, the Wild or Professor paying 175x bet, Book 50x, Bottle 37.5x, Bag 30x, Watch 22.5x, Key 18.75x with four card suits all at 12.5x for a full line. Now, those 4 concealed positions on the centre of each side of the grid - randomly, all 4 can activate and make the grid a 1-3-5-7-5-3-1 where reels 1, 4 and 7 will be only Wild symbols. That's the lot for the base game, but we can get two free spins bonuses which can pay very well.
Free Games
You need scatters on the centre 3 reels to trigger the Wonder Wheel. It's worth pointing out that you cannot trigger the feature if on a random Wild reels spin as described above. The Wonder Wheel has 30 segments and you can get up to 5 prizes. Alas that tells us we could be fobbed off with cash awards and not trigger one of the two free spins rounds but you can choose which when you do get them.
Gold Foundry Spins - these use the standard 5x5 grid with 8 spins. No retrigger and randomly on every spin you may trigger 2 to 5 Wild reels, no retriggers.
Diamond Forge Spins - these take place with the 1-3-5-7-5-3-1 reels described above where reels 1, 4 and 7 are Wild. You get 5 spins and any Wild landing on the other 4 reels are sticky for the duration, again no retriggers.
Our View...
The Wild Machine slot has that old flaw about not guaranteeing free games for the bonus trigger, but to be fair the trigger is quite frequent and sometimes when expanding the initial cash segment to up to 5 segments it will trigger the spins as well as pay cash. The game is volatile and when you do get the free spins they often pay well as can the random Wild reels in the base game. The zany theme actually works well and the glossy graphics and animations are very good, the music and sounds not too tiring. You also see a good 96.52% RTP and the base game does maintain the balance well enough. It's worth going wild and visiting this machine just to experience the free spins alone...
