Shifting Seas slot by Thunderkick has one of those set ups first seen in old WMS games like Red Flag Fleet and of course the famous old Zeus 3 slot. Netent later tried this mechanic out with games like Dazzle Me slot so you may have guessed we get a strange reel set here! The desert island background, seafaring music and pirate symbols create our nautical theme here, so can this game be a case of shifting riches too for our bankroll?
On the reels...
You begin here on Shifting Seas slot with 6 reels in a 4-4-3-3-2-2 pattern and 576-ways with each symbol an individual tile, replaced from above if they are winning ones. Each win also causes the rightmost reel to disappear, replaced by a new one on the left with one extra symbol. This means when fully developed you could have 6 reels of 7-rows and 117649-ways in play. A special Wild symbol gives us our 3 modifiers here where either the left reel is made bigger, 3 Wilds are stacked on one reel or Symbol Rush where 4-8 symbols on any reel can be transformed into a single new symbol. You get one single Bonus symbol which we will get to soon. The 6-of-a-kind pays are Chest or Wild 5x bet, Lady Pirate 1.8x, Green Man 1.4x, Pink Man 1.2x, Owl 1x with five card values at 0.8 down to 0.5x bet.
These are created by getting enough tumbles within a single play to move the Bonus coin off of the right side via the shifting reels, which if you remember create a new left reel and push the rightmost off. So once this happens you trigger 8 spins. There is a now a Wild reel placed on the left and your objective is to get enough tumbles to move it off the right, whereupon it reappears on the left now with a 2x multiplier and +1 spin, and so-on. Your ways are not retained between free spins so reels revert to 4-4-3-3-2-2 after each losing round but the Wild reel will remain as is. We are told 15,000x is possible here.
Shifting Seas slot has a 96.15% RTP although you should be aware that Thunderkick now offer reduced RTP ranges to their clients so always check. The game is alright to play, visually and sound-wise and can throw the odd decent win in via the Wild modifier tile when it appears. Free games aren't hard to trigger but are quite lumpy with plenty of low returns until you finally nail the big one via getting the reels expanded and the Wild reel multiplier to 3x or more which requires not a little bit of good fortune. Whether you find your fortunes shifting here or not, there's worse games to play...
