Forbidden Dragons slot was frankly a bit depressing when I first inspected it, as I and no doubt you will have seen the format many a time before in games such as Zeus 1000 and Kiss from this developer. That doesn't mean that they aren't fun to watch and play although I doubt they will reproduce the spectacular music and graphics from the aforementioned Kiss slot - here we just get bog-standard Chinese symbology and the expected sounds that go with the common theme, all over a pretty plain background. Is there any chance here that these dragons haven't forbidden us from raising our bankroll though?
On the reels...
There is of course 2 reel sets here, a 5x4 and a 5x12 played simultaneously for which we get 100 pay lines and a 50-coin fixed bet. Symbols are stacked naturally and therefore will have the usual piddly pays for a single way, due to you getting multiple ways on most wins. Flame Dragons pay 5x bet for a full line of 5, Green Dragons 4x, Emperor or Empress 2x and Paper Dragon or Jade Statue 1.5x and finally 4 card suits at 1x. Wilds are in the form of a Ying Yang and are not specified for 5-of-a-kind but usually these match the top pay.
You have the standard in-play 'replicating Wilds' mechanic for this type of game, meaning that if a full stack of 4 appears on any reel on the smaller 5x4 grid it will replicate to the larger 5x12 grid on the right. This should immediately indicate the limited potential here as the most you could achieve will all of both grids Wild is 100 lines x5 or 500x bet. This could put the thrill-chasing player off a bit if they like the belief that they could win big - not here!
Free games
Scatters in the form of a Gold Dragon Token appear on the odd reels 1,3 and 5 and evens 6, 8 and 10 on the large grid. You only need 3 in view anywhere to trigger 8 free games which could retrigger. During these you get enhanced reels with more stacks of Wilds and higher symbols on and as usual will find during them your wins mostly consist of multiple lines of either 3 or 4 symbols which produces a nice graphics display and sounds as those lines flash up but very little money. Unfortunately, as always 15x 'very little' amounts to 'quite little'...
Our View...
Forbidden Dragons slot is put quite simply, a 'shelf filler' in WMS' online portfolio. It brings nothing new to the table and when you bear in mind the format was quite mediocre in the first place even with good graphics and themes, this game simply doesn't cut the mustard. Sure, you get a reasonable 95.91% RTP and a lot of reels spinning in front of you, but other than that it's totally nondescript and wins of 100x or more will be rare. The volatility is simply too low for most players. Well one thing's for sure; I've forbidden myself from ever going near these dragons again...
