Night Life slot is the first slot with an unseen mechanic from WMS, the ‘Lock It Link’ which pertains to a feature we shall see in due course and can be quite lucrative on occasion. You may be familiar with other WMS traits already, such as the ‘Money Burst’ on Bruce Lee or ‘Bonus Guarantee’ on games such as Montezuma and Raging Rhino so it’s good to see another variety here. Back to the game, we have transparent reels over a cityscape with the theme reflecting the glamour of the wealthy enjoying the Night Life and their expensive toys or possessions, maybe a tribute to Microgaming’s Finer Reels of Life game? So will this urban backdrop and cheesy Piano Bar music bring to us some of the trappings of the nouveau riche?
On the reels…
We have smaller pays here because there are 50 pay lines over the minimum 5 reels of 3 rows each and icons appear singly with the exception of our sharp-dressed man, the top-paying icon which is stacked and pays just 2x bet for a 5-of-a-kind win. There are Gold Coin Wilds paying 3x bet for our 50-coin stake while the Ferrari pays 90, Yacht 75, Champagne or Luggage 50 with the card values awarding 20 or 30 coins. There are two types of scatters, the first being a City at night on reels 2, 3 and 4 and Ruby Hearts which can appear in any position.
Lock It Link feature
You will see the Hearts on most spins and these will always display a cash value of 1-100x your stake. You need 3, 4 or 5 on any row to trigger the Lock It feature. You will then get the cash values of all triggered Hearts locked in and the reels will the transform to a different set with the triggering Hearts remaining in position. The new reels will have either blanks or Hearts on and you get a spin for each triggering Heart. Every time another Heart lands in view, it will be locked in too and award extra spins. You continue until the spins run out with no more Hearts awarded. You then get awarded the total cash values accrued. If you fill the grid up with all 15 Hearts, all amounts displayed will have an extra 2x bet added to them, so a bonus of 30x stake. If you have seen games such as Barber Shop Uncut or Jack Hammer, this is how the Lock It feature operates.
On any spin you may see a Gold Heart on any reel. This is because there are internal jackpot amounts as with WMS’s Wishing You Fortune slot. You have the Mini at 40x stake, Minor at 100x, Major at 2000x and finally the Grand at 5000x bet. You only win the jackpot amount if the Gold Heart is part of a Lock It feature trigger where you land that and at least 2 others on the same row. The jackpot is awarded after the Lock It feature ends. The Gold Heart will only display either Mini or Minor if appearing on reels 1, 2, 4 or 5 and the Major and Grand can only be displayed (along with Mini and Minor) if the Gold Heart appears on the centre reel.
Night Life spins
Should you land the City icon on the centre 3 reels then you trigger the bonus round. You can actually choose free spins or opt for the above Lock It feature which will then spin in with 3 Hearts on the centre row. If you opt for free games you get 6 which can be retriggered and they are played at 3x multiplier. If though you see a single Wild in view when you get a win the multiplier rises to 4x, two in view 5x and so-on up to a maximum of 8x if all 5 reels have a Wild anywhere on them.
Lock It Link Night Life slot is a glitzy and showy game graphics-wise with nice animations and effects as you play. The game is quite low in volatility with frequent and small base game hits and similarly the feature bonuses don’t have a huge amount of potential unless you get lucky on the Lock It feature which personally I would always choose over the free spins. The RTP isn’t bad either with 96.02% being the figure and as the jackpots are technically internal pays there is no contribution to them from this. If you want some colourful low-risk entertainment then get your glad rags on and go hit the Night Life!
