Zeus 2 slot is slightly out of sequence as we first had Zeus from WMS, then Zeus 3, then Zeus 1000 and the fourth version was Zeus God of Thunder. So why on earth do WMS feel the need for another version? Previously all they did after Zeus the first was transpose the graphics onto existing mechanics such as their Colossal Reels in the case of Zeus 1000. Now we know the theme of classic Greco-Roman style reels over a cloudy but blue sky already, and here we get the MoneyBurst sounds such as occur on Bruce Lee as our soundtrack. So have WMS created an offering for our bankroll here, or is it all destined for sacrifice to the Gods?
We see exactly the same symbols as in the original Zeus slot but here we get 5 reels of 4 rows each which means our paying lines are increased to 40. To me that usually spells impending doom as the line pays will likely be poor as is the case with most recent Bally or WMS slots since they joined the Scientific Gaming platform. Take Wonder Woman Bullets and Bracelets as an example. So lets see how generous these are; well 5-of-a-kind Zeus pays a measly 3.75x bet or 150 coins for our 40-coin stake which is the predictably poor top pay. The irony is that Pegasus, Ship, Helmet, Lyre, Vase, Gold Coin and Silver coin ALL pay exactly the same as Zeus, the three exceptions being the Lyre, Olive Headband and Bronze Coin at 100 coins. This is not a good sign from the Gods given that the symbols aside from Zeus aren't even stacked either. We do however see single Acropolis Wilds on all reels bar the first.
It seems that the only real difference on Zeus 2 is that if a full stack of 4 Zeus appears on reel 1, you get those and any other Zeus or Wilds on the grid stick for 2 respins, after which any wins are paid. I can tell you now that even in the remote eventuality you ended up with a full screen, your maximum win is a pathetic 150x bet. I am so demotivated now I can hardly bear to continue typing.
The familiar old Blue Lightning scatters still appear but somehow WMS have even messed that up here, as instead of 3 or more anywhere on the grid for free games you can only get them on reels 1,2 and 3 now. You will get 10 free games and the chance of retriggers with the same old increased incidence of stacked Zeus and Wilds on the reels. These will help you rack up those piddling line pays, surely.
Zeus 2 appropriately only raised two questions - why, WMS and what is this game for? The volatility is hopelessly low, there is no big-win potential and even the RTP is rather poor at 95.32%. There is nothing new in the graphics or animations and the game is slow and it has to be one of the most unexciting slots ever, even Starburst is more entertaining. WMS should take note from Hollywood - every subsequent sequel to a hit film is invariably worse by degrees until the format dies away. These Gods may be immortal, but the Zeus slot died along time ago...
