Rumpel Thrill Spins slot has been cleverly named to sound like 'Rumpelstiltskin' the mythical little weaver from a tale by The Brothers Grimm. Not the first time though as Novomatic did this previously with their Rumpel Wild Spins slot plus fairytales have been covered numerous times before, Netent's Hansel and Gretel or Red Riding Hood being prime examples. We get transparent reels over a cartoon picture of the castle room in which our unfortunate princess was imprisoned and of course a classical music soundtrack in the appropriate fantasy style. So like our princess, can we escape our trollish jailer or will our balance get locked away for eternity?
On the reels...
The characters we would expect feature on this 25-line game over 5 reels of 3 rows. All the icons are single and the Wilds feature the valuable Golden Thread from the tale and pay 40x bet for 5-of-a-kind. We then get Rumpelstiltskin himself at 30x, the Princess at 20x, the Prince at 10x and castle at 8x with six card values paying 6x, 4x or 2x for a full line.
As with Genesis Gaming's Journey To the West a special Wild can appear on reel 3, in this case in the form of a beautiful bejeweled Gold Necklace which will expand to fill the reel, and possibly one or both of reels 2 and 4 adjacent to it.
Like our poor princess, we may be tasked with turning straw into gold thread but don't worry because when Straw appears on reel 5 and the Spinning Wheel on reel 1 on the same row Rumpelstiltskin will appear on the screen and turn 1 to 15 positions into Wilds. You would get 1000x bet if he's feeling generous and fills the grid in full!

You will see the game logo on reels 2, 3 and 4 and if they all appear you get taken to a grid of 15 tiles. Take picks to get free spin quantities of either 1, 2 or 3 sometimes with a +1 multiplier. You'll eventually land a 4-spins pick which ends the round and takes you to the free games. Now Rumpelstiltskin has 15 letters and you reveal one for each tile, so if you are lucky and clear the board not only do you get the maximum number of spins and multipliers but another 20x bet bonus for your efforts!
You'll usually end up with at least 8 spins at 2x multiplier, but can get up 20 with a 5x multiplier. The Straw Into Gold feature and expanding Necklace Wild can occur too as can retriggers which repeat the same spins and multiplier you began with. If Rumpelstiltskin decides to give you his full screen of Wilds here, the 1000x can be theoretically multiplied by 2, 3 or even 5x.
Our View...
Despite the juvenile theme, Rumpel Thrill Spins slot has a decent mechanic, good graphics and some big-win potential too. We get a good 96.10% RTP to help us along the way and the volatility is slightly higher than many Genesis Gaming slots in the base game especially, which appeals to some players more than others admittedly. The free spins are very entertaining and tend to be either very good or poor with little in between in keeping with the more volatile model of the game. Rumpel Thrill Spins may not be quite as thrilling as it promises but shouldn't turn your gold into straw - well not too quickly anyway...
