Dragon Champions slot summary
Dragon Champions slot has arrived to accompany Buffalo Blitz in Playtech's late entry into the increasingly popular multiway format market, so have they made a success of it and will it compare favourably with leviathans such as WMS' Raging Rhino and BTG's Danger High Voltage? The simple answer is 'yes' as we see transparent reels over a vault carpeted in gold coins which the dragon guards ferociously as you may expect. You spin to a dramatic classical soundtrack with a nice 'ker-ching' when wins appear and in some cases are treated to animations, so can these dragons champion our bankroll or will they leave it in flames?
On the reels...
There are 6 reels of 4 rows each and no paying lines as we have the classic 4096-way format here. The symbols all appear in stacks of varying heights from single to all 4 rows except the game logo Wild which appears as a single only on the last 5 reels, plus the shield scatter which is single on all 6. The main symbols all pay for 3 or more but the Dragon awards 1x bet for just two reel and pays the best 6-of-a-kind at 10x bet. The male or female warriors pay 5x, female Archer and Mystery Man 4x along with 6 card values paying 3x, 2.5x and 2x for a full way.
You will see some symbols of the same kind flash by as you spin with a blue flame trailing them and if these land in view they become Dragonfire Symbols and these will expand to all adjacent potions available to form a cross of 5 symbols. They can only expand fully if on rows 2 and 3 of the centre 4 reels, otherwise they expand to fill all available positions on the grid up to the edge. This means that if you see the Dragonfire symbols on row 2/3 of reels 2 and 4 for example, you are guaranteed at least 9 ways of a 5-of-a-kind win. The symbol is randomly selected each spin and cannot be the Dragon, Wild or Scatter.
Dragonfire free spins
The free games are triggered by 3 or more Free Game Shields in view anywhere. Similar to Buffalo Blitz you get 8 spins for 3, 15 for 4, 25 for 5 and 100 for all 6. They can retrigger and we also get the comforting familiarity of earning 5 extra spins for any 2 in view in the free games. Now the enhancement we get is that only the top-paying Dragon can be overlaid with the Dragonfire feature thus increasing the chances of some possibly huge wins - you can get a full dragon on all reels so theoretically 40,960 x bet is feasible in both base game and feature!
Our View...
Dragon Champions slot certainly meets the mark for making the 4096-way game more interesting and this is a great release from Playtech! The Dragonfire symbols mean that even the lower symbols over 3 or 4 reels only can become big wins and I have seen over 200x bet in the base game just for combinations of Aces or Kings over 6 reels with one or two Dragonfires in them. There is colossal potential, the RTP is 95.11% and we see some nice animations from the Dragonfire hits and in the free spins. The bonus game tends to award very frequent retriggers and extra spins and more often than not you have some decent returns from it. I personally like the high-volatility multiway slots and this game instantly had me hooked and is one of the best I have seen - Playtech may well have the Champion of slots here...
