Age of the Gods Apollo Powers slot by Playtech comes hot on the heels of another addition to this AotG series, Age Of The Gods Ruler Of The Seas. The AotG series was originally designed to replace the old Marvel slots like Iron Man 2 and Fantastic 4 when Playtech could no longer use the license. As a result, the earlier AotG slots such as Mighty Midas and then Rulers of Olympus were re-skinned direct copies of the older Marvel games. This game, however, bears no resemblance and uses a new mechanic altogether. We have a tumultuous red sky as our background here, portentous classical music and dramatic sound effects as would befit the mighty theme of this series. So can Apollo power up our bankroll a bit here, or will it be another sacrifice made?
On The Reels...
For the first time in this series, we have 6 reels of 4 rows each and 50 fixed pay lines on Age of the Gods Apollo Powers slot. Icons are all stacked bar one special symbol we'll get to soon. We pay 50-coins a spin and Wilds are naturally the best pay at 20x bet or 1000 coins for 6-of-a-kind, Apollo himself 600, Sword 160, Bow or Lyre 120, Garland or Ring 80 with 4 card values all at 50 coins or 1x bet. The game is straightforward as there are no random modifiers and the most basic of a bonus round - if you can call it that.
Apollo Power Respins
You may see just one Apollo Wild land on the grid on any spin. It has a directional arrow on it and essentially moves about the grid up, down, left or right until it ends back where it originally landed, in a series of free respins. This, for example, could result in a solid 3x2 block, a hollow square of 4x4, in fact pretty much any pattern is possible. Needless to say, it tends to land on the last 2 or 3 reels!
Our View...
Age of the Gods Apollo Powers slot is colourful, with good graphics, animations and great sound effects. We also get a very good 96.47% RTP, but that's where the positives end. More often than not, the respin Wild will land on the last 2 reels, and you'll then sit through multiple respins as it tracks about the grid and somehow manages to stick its pattern to those last 3 reels. So you see Wilds located there for numerous spins and not one connects a 3-of-a-kind on the first three reels to produce a win, then after watching this frustrating nonsense for 10 spins a BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME message laughs at you. That's 2 minutes of your life you'll never get back, for winning zilch. A full screen of Wilds would pay only 500x bet anyway. If I want a maximum pay of 500x bet which will never occur in a billion spins, I'll play Starburst instead...
