Wisps slot summary
The renowned slots developer iSoftBet is usually more associated with branded slots but they are actually a dab hand at releasing original titles that are packed with colour and vibrant features in their own right.
243 Ways to Win
Wisps is a 5 reel, 243 ways to win slot that is all about energy and space. The reels are set against a backdrop of space itself and the whole theme feels slightly celestial. In fact, you will do well to not enter a state of complete relaxation when you play this game. I was 12 spins in before I had to take a shot of espresso and put on some hardcore trance to keep me from totally wiping out... but I assure you, that's in a good way.
The Symbols
The symbols on this slot are a lot easier to look at than explain. They are basically different types of light patterns or wisps as the game calls them. There is a purple ball-shaped wisp, orange star-shaped wisp, blue flame wisp, multi-coloured comet wisp, and a lilac orb-shaped wisp. There are also the regular 9-through-to-Ace symbols that are each presented in a different colour.
A Wispy Wild
The Wild symbol is represented by an orange and red wisp. It will substitute for all other symbols on the reels, except for the Scatters and transformer symbols, to complete possible winning combinations across the reels.
Three Different Play Modes
This slot comes with three different game modes that are triggered at random. The first is the Left to Right Mode. This is when the ways pay from left to right. The second is Both Ways Mode. Ways pay from left to right and from right to left. Finally, there is the Left to Right Transformer Mode. In this mode, the transformer symbol can appear over any symbol on the centre reel. When it appears, it will transform all six of the regular 9-through-to-Ace symbols into the same symbol.
Trigger up to 15 Free Spins with a 25x Multiplier
If you are looking for free spins then you have also come to the right place. If you hit three or more Scatters, represented by a butterfly-shaped wisp, then you will trigger the free spins bonus round. Three Scatters will reward you with 15 free spins and a 5x multiplier. Four Scatters will see you win 15 free spins and a 10x multiplier. Five Scatters will give you 15 free spins and a 25x multiplier.
Two Different Free Spins Modes
That's not all! Once you trigger the free spins bonus round, you will be given the chance to choose one of two free spins modes. The first is Bouncing Wilds where 1 to 5 random symbols on the reels on each free spin can become Wild. The second is Spiral Wilds where 1, 2, or 3 reels can become Wild for each free spin.
Our View...
Wisps did strike the fear of God into me initially when I opened it up because it felt like all of the turgid NetEnt slots that we've had mass produced lately such as the below-par Glow slot and the mediocre Sparks slot. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The different game modes keeps things interesting, the free spins are prolific, and the fact you can also choose one of two different free spins modes allows you a bit of control. This is a lesson to NetEnt about how to do ambient-themed slots.
