Golden Macaque slot by Playtech is a rather good looking slot with the reels over a Chinese temple standing by a pond so we get a great background to the game from the off, supplemented by the brightly coloured reels and symbols in view. The Macaque makes his call while the reels are idle but the music is strangely out of kilter with the theme here. Playtech are making more Chinese themes nowadays perhaps due to their presence in the Far Eastern markets, as we saw with Wu Long, Tiger Claw and Si Ling, so will our bankroll be going east, or south here?
No paylines here on Golden Macaque slot as we have 243-ways to win over 5 reels of 3 rows each. Symbols are single and stacked and we pay 20-coins to play with and as Macaque Wilds only appear on reels 2,3,4 the top 5-of-a-kind pay is 50 coins for the the Tiger, 30 Goat, 20 Pig, 15 Hen, 10 Rabbit with four card values paying a paltry 4 coins for a full way. You have fixed jackpot above the reels and two kinds of scatters, the Drum and Gong.
The Gong appears stacked and you need 6 or more in view for what is now a common feature on many slots lately. You get cash awards for the triggering Drums and then 3 respins on the reaming tiles only. Each drum resets the 3 respins and you can get a Macaque appear which will pay an award equalling all your collected Drum cash amounts, or a Jackpot Star which will spin in one of three fixed jackpots displayed above the grid. These are 10, 25, 100 and 2000x stake respectively. To get the Grand of 2000x you need to fill all 15 tiles before the respins end.
Three or more anywhere pay the scatter values and offer you a choice of 4 Gongs. Hit one, and you'll either get the Fire Blaze Respins as above or 6 free games with all card values removed from the reels, which can retrigger too.
Nothing new to see here on Golden Macaque slot but it is colourful and low in base game volatility so you'll get some play time. I cannot understand the silly 1980's game console sound effects when the reels spin and stop as they really don't go with the game, some proper music or cymbals would have been better. You do get a handsome 96.73% RTP though and relatively frequent features to make up for the fact they seldom pay anything of significance. Don't let this macaque make a monkey out of you though...
