Sword of Khans slot summary
Sword of Khans slot by Thunderkick has a Mongolian theme alluding to the Emperor Genghis Khan and indeed we see the reels set in a temple with a majestic mountain sunset behind it, with some faint but imposing classical music as we view the scene. These warrior themes have provided some decent slots in the past with Novomatic's Katana and the classic Quickspin game Beowulf although my personal favourite has to be the original Thunderstruck slot with those volatile Vikings! So will Khan's sword be slashing away at our bankroll here or will we enter this battle with enough armour?

Shortly you will be thinking that we have yet another version of Book of Ra Deluxe here when I tell you the mechanics of Sword of Khans slot. Yes, but not quite. There are 10 fixed pay lines over 5 reels of 3 rows apiece with the 5-of-a-kind pays 200x for 5 Sword Scatter/Wilds but if on a win line they will pay 250x the same as the top Khan Warrior symbol, 50x Helmet, 40x Breastplate, 30x Shield with five card values paying 15 down to 10x for a full line. No random modifiers so let's get on and see Yggdrasil's take on the Expanding Scatter bonus round.
Free Games
If you see 3 or more Sword Wilds in view you get free spins and the game selects either 5,7,8,9,10,12 or 15 of them. The game selects at random a chosen symbol aside from the Wild Sword Scatter to become an expanding scatter pay, so 2 (in the case of the 4 picture symbols) or 3 landing anywhere in view will count as wins, effectively at a 10x multiplier due to the 10 lines in play.
This is now where the variation of the mechanic comes in to play. You only need 2 Wilds to retrigger the feature and get a random amount of spins as specified above. You get another symbol chosen to act as an expanding scatter but can also get the existing one chosen again. If this occurs then that symbol gets a 2x multiplier applied for the rest of the bonus. This can happen to a maximum of 3x if a symbol is selected thrice. Once it is, it cannot be chosen again. There's no limit on retriggers but they will stop once all 9 symbols have a 3x multiplier, which admittedly is extremely unlikely!
Our View...
Sword of Khans slot is a very inventive variation of the widely copied Book of Ra mechanic. You get a disappointingly low 95.36% RTP for Yggdrasil, although this is slightly higher than all the Novomatic versions. The good thing here is that you have a 10,000x bet cap on free games winnings which means you can exceed the traditional 5,000x plus of the traditional versions. The multiplier symbols possible make this exciting as does the fact you only need 2 scatters for a retrigger, so a full screen of top Khan symbol would pay 7,500x if it had been chosen three times already. The graphics and animations are superb but be aware the free games are volatile and may pay very little without retriggers or if you only begin with 5 or 7 of them, but it does seem easier to trigger here than on most versions. I say go and do battle with Khan, but be aware his sword is very sharp indeed...
