Maya Gold slot summary
Maya Gold slot by IGT is surprisingly only their second South American theme after Solar Disc slot. I say surprising because it's quite a widely used subject, with prime example being the similarly named Mayan Gold by Ainsworth and of course the Bally game often found in land based casino, Mayan Treasures. Here we have the reels set over the archetypal stone block pyramid with native music from the region and funnily enough the woman's voice which follows some wins sounds the same as that used on Cleopatra slot's soundbites such as 'twice as nice'! On The Reels...
We begin with 25 fixed pay lines and a matching bet of 25 coins on Maya Gold slot and single symbols. The 5-of-a-kind pays are quite high for an IGT game with 200x stake for the Gold Idol, 80x Coins or Gargoyle, 24x Princess or Warrior, 16x Daggers or Toucan and Pyramid or Skull 8x. Jaguar Wilds can appear on the first 3 reels but there are 3 kinds of scatters we need to learn about separately.
Mini Slot Bonus
Somewhat incongruous with the theme, Mini Slot symbols can appear on all reels. You need 3, 4 or 5 on a pay line from left to right which will give you 1, 2 or 3 slots to spin respectively. You always get a prize and this can be from 0.8 to 40x bet so nothing that profitable here.
Memory Bonus
There is a Stone Block which can only appear on reel 5. Each time it will award 25 points or in other words one point per line coin, so if you bet 50 instead of the basic 25 you get 50 points. When you have 1000 points saved, you get a pick-me for pairs and the pair revealed pays from 4 to 100x stake.
Free Games
Sun Disc scatters will award 8, 20 or 100 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 respectively. These pay at 2x multiplier except the bonus points for the Memory Bonus and can retrigger. They are very volatile and often disappointing unless you land a high 5OAK win though.
Our View...
Maya Gold slot is very colourful, easy to play and listen to with decent animations. The pay tables mean that unless hitting your big 5OAK wins your balance can drop very fast as much of the 89.28-98.44% RTP seems to be allocated to them. As said, the free spins are usually very disappointing as you're saving up for those big hits which are extremely rare but then again, at least we can't complain about lack of potential here. I would be very reluctant to attempt relieving these Mayans of their gold ever again...
