Free Solar Disc slot
Please be patient, some games take longer to load than others!
Solar Disc slot is quite unusual for an IGT game in that I actually liked it as soon as I saw the design and heard the quite cool music it opens with. The stacked symbols reminded me of old classics such as Wolf Run or Black Widow and even better, as promised IGT have finally it seems sorted out their auto-play for us long-suffering UK players! The theme appears to be Inca or Mayan with South American animals featuring and tribal artifacts although the music is more dramatic than native, with temples featured in the background having golden coins scattered about them reflecting the red sunset. Can the Sun Gods shine upon our coins too?
On the reels...
We have 6 reels similar to games such as Raging Rhino and Bonanza although there are no multiways here, but a rather odd 26 fixed pay lines for which we pay 50 coins to play. The Jaguar or Dog pays the highest for 6-of-a-kind at 250 coins or 5x bet with the Mask and Gold Cup at 75 coins, the Key and Token at 50 coins and that's the only 6 standard icons you'll get here. You don't see Wilds except when they are created by the Sun Discs which we'll discuss shortly, but you can trigger free games. All the standard symbols are stacked up to 4 rows high and each spin one will be super-stacked at random which you can identify when watching the reels spin.
When spinning you'll hear a dramatic roar and whoosh! when the Solar Discs pass through the game grid and when on more more stops in view it will transform to any one of the 6 symbols which then turn Wild wherever they are on the grid. It is possible to get a full screen of Wilds when this occurs which will pay 25,000 coins or 500x bet. A second disc would select a different symbol to change and so-on.
A 'bonus' icon on reel 1 and any one or more Solar Discs elsewhere on the grid will trigger 10 free games which cannot unfortunately be retriggered as it's a decent format we see here. During the 10 free spins you are guaranteed at least one Solar Disc in view which will therefore transform at least one icon on the grid into the Wild. That's all there is to it!
Solar Disc slot looks good and sounds very good, following a similar theme to another IGT slot - Mayan Riches. However, underneath you're essentially playing a game with a win range, frequency and maximum the same as you get on Netent's dull old Starburst slot. Yes, at least here you get a free games bonus but it rarely adds up to anything of substance and can be quite hard to trigger. The RTP lies between 92.05-96.01% depending on operator choice and most of this seems to be allocated to the base game which can go on streaks of Solar Disc appearances sometimes and even with say 16 or 17 of all 24 possible Wilds in view it can still pay only around 50x bet, as indeed I witnessed! This game makes a great alternative to Starburst, but then again I don't play Starburst for a reason...
