Reel Splitter slot review

reel splitter slot gameReel Splitter slot by Just For The Win will be available via the Microgaming Quickfire platform and most of their casinos, as well as a standalone game. It's very basic to look at with jolly music playing as we spin the reels over a dark chequered background and retro plain symbols on the reels. The icons are like the classic Novomatic ones from Power Stars, Sizzling Hot Deluxe and Ultra Fruits so you really don't have much for the eye here at all. I'm uneasy about the word splitter too, as if this applies to our bankroll then we're already in trouble here!

On The Reels...

We see a grid of 4 reels of 3 rows each with 81 ways to win, but that's not how it stays. Symbols are stacked in varying quantities and the 5-of-a-kind pays are 12x for the Slot Logo, 8x Lemon, 5x Plum, 4x Melon, 3x Cherry and 2x for all five card values. You can also see single Wilds appearing on the reels. You might wonder why I am telling you about 5-of-a-kind wins on a 4-reel slot, but the clue lies in the title - when any 4OAK win appears, the symbols stay in position and the game may or may not split to reveal a centre 3rd. reel which spins alone and makes the game 243-ways for a respin, hopefully giving you some 5AOK wins on top. Very good, Just For The Win.

Free Games

You do get free games on Reel Splitter by landing either 3 or 4 of the equally imaginative Free Spins scatters. You get 8 or 16 for 3 or 4 respectively. You now get reel 3 held as a Wild reel and the game pays both ways too and to be fair you should see a reasonable return. For some reason, the scatters still appear on the reels despite there being no retriggers. D'oh.

Our View...

Reel Splitter slot has a completely pointless mechanic as it could have a been a 243-way game to begin with. The game is deliberately basic looking but that doesn't excuse it being pretty dreadful to play with irritating music and the silly 'will it or won't it?' moment after a 4OAK win drops in during the base game. The fact that you don't get a pay for scatters or retriggers in the free games makes me wonder what they're doing there, even now. I am splitting from this slot permanently, right now...
