Fortunium slot review

fortunium slot gameFortunium slot was developed by one of the smaller in-house designers called Stormcraft Studios on behalf of Microgaming. This has been a common practice for the Isle of Man-based gambling company, with another example being the Swedish Developer Just For the Win who produced their Goldwyn's Fairies and Deco Diamonds slots. The theme here is fantasy characters of a past era with a background of a Victorian-style town street and deceptively gentle classical music which roars into life when wins occur. Graphics are sharp and the game is smooth on all devices so all is well so far but is visiting Fortunium likely to cost you, well, a small fortune?

On the reels...

The grid is quite large as we are given 5 reels of 5 rows each to begin with with stacked icons. There are 40 lines and the fact you only need 10 coins to play obviously results in quite low pays as you might expect. The icons are single or in paired stacks with the exception of our two picturesque characters, Victoria and Maximillian which appear 5-rows high thus making a full screen possible. Mind you, they only pay 8x bet for a 5-of-a-kind so this theoretical hit would only yield 320x bet which is indicative of the very low volatility here. You will get 6x bet for the Treasure Chests and 5x for the Airship and 4x for the Gun with the rest being card suit symbols all around 1x bet for the full line.

Mysterious world

Randomly you will see full 5-row stacks of Question Marks appearing on the various reels in any combination of them. Should these activate by landing fully or in part they all reveal the same mystery symbol which can be anything but the scatter and could be the Wild which otherwise (like the non-character icons) can only appear singly or doubled. You can elect to pay 15 coins per spin and use the 'Win Booster' which means the Question Marks can only then reveal Wilds or higher-paying picture icons.

Mystery Reel free spins

If you see 3, 4 or 5 Emerald scatters anywhere in view 10 free games are triggered. You enhancement here is that depending on the amount of scatters triggering, you get any one, two or even all three (for a 5-scatter trigger) of reels 2 to 4 full of mystery symbols. If you've used the 'Win Booster' stake these will naturally be devoid of any lower-pay symbol reveals. No retrigger is possible but you do get an extra spin for each scatter that appears.

Our View...

Fortunium slot is aesthetically good and the sounds and effects equally so. The RTP is a little over 96% and the game mechanic quite good but then we come to a major cause for concern; the game could easily be mistaken for a Netent who frequently use these awful low-variance maths models for their slots which have low maximum win potential and an 'egg-timer' effect on your bankroll. This means that you'll have a decent bit of play time for your money but once you're say 50-100x bet down your chances of retrieval are very slim to say the least. The free spins are mostly dead unless you see mystery stacks on the other reels as well as your guaranteed reel(s). Having said that, the real chance of winning lies in a rare 5-scatter trigger as getting 3 centre reels full each spin would guarantee 40x 4-of-a-kind or better wins each spin. See that trigger and you may, just may avoid spending a small Fortunium...
