Lara Croft Temples and Tombs slot is fronted by Microgaming but was developed by Triple Edge Studios, a smaller in-house developer they use. You may recall that when Microgaming were a force to be reckoned with they developed Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider 2 based on the classic Eidos console games which were quite well received amongst players. Let me tell you that Lara Croft Temples and Tombs is very different to those two slots although with the same adventure theme and spooky music along with some really dramatic sound effects as those stone blocks land, which are as good as the console games themselves! Naturally the grid is placed over a torchlit temple and the atmosphere is tense here, so can Lara get our bankroll past those hidden perils awaiting it?
On The Reels...
There are 243 ways on a 5x3 grid on Lara Croft temple and Tombs slot but the first thing that's apparent is that the game is a cascade of 15 separate tiles as with games like Gonzo's Quest and funnily enough you get the 1,2,3 and 5x increasing multiplier in the base game for winning actions on a single spin. You must pay 20 coins per spin and the 5-of-a-kind pays are 10x Lara, 5X Lara Pistol Aim, 4x Lara Tumbling, 3.5X Lara Motorbiking, Crocodile 3x and Dog 2.5x. You have the 4 smaller pays of 48 coins for her Pickaxe and Ropes, 40 for the Medikit, 32 Torch and finally 16 Water Flask. Wilds can appear only on the centre 3 reels as Gold Coins and predictably for an adventure theme we get the familiar Book as the scatter on all reels, as with numerous other slots, most notably Book of Ra Deluxe.
Jackpots
There aren't progressives but three fixed jackpots which are triggered by Wilds. Whenever Wilds appear on the screen and are used, they get put in Lara's backpack and after the spin has ended, this may trigger a jackpot, the more Wilds collected the more likely it is. You'll get Bronze, Silver or Gold for 15, 100 or 5,000x bet respectively.
Free Games
Scatter Books can appear only on reels 1,2 and 3 although with symbol replacement it's possible to trigger the 8 free games on more than one way by having a Wild or two in view as these Wilds also substitute for the scatter too! Your multipliers are tripled for these so your scale is 3, 6, 9 and 15x is the top which you'll hit after 4 or more wins within one play. You can also retrigger them with 8 new spins added and this is a volatile bonus too, but Lara would expect nothing less.
Our View...
Lara Croft Temples and Tombs slot is quite good actually, with the graphics, icons and animations very good and sound effects superb. It provides a less-volatile game for the Gonzo's Quest fans with a more frequent free games round although I'm not sure I like the some of the 96.05% RTP being allocated to fixed jackpots which seems a superfluous feature to be honest. Your potential in the bonus is limited to 10x bet ways on a 15x multiplier but Wilds are frequent to help you rack up some decent totals although it's quite usual to end up with some terrible return too if the round goes against you. I wouldn't be too afraid to follow our intrepid Lara into these temples and tombs again...
