Contact slot review

contact slot gameContact slot by Playn' Go is very different to previous offerings by this Swedish developer. The Aztec or Inca theme isn't new itself, as we've witnessed with their Aztec Idols and Aztec Warrior Princess games but here we have a new mechanic altogether. The tiles are stone blocks which fill the face of an Aztec temple between the two stone pillars at the side and we have the relevant tribal music and nice reassuring sounds as they land to complete the theme. It looks like a hybrid of Gonzo's Quest and Viking Runecraft, both dangerous games for the player, so will our bankroll survive first contact with this slot?

On The Reels...

You see two stone pillars either side of the grid, each 7 sections high. Between these cascades 5 reels of 7 rows each with individual tiles of which we need 5 or more to land adjacent to win for that symbol. You get pay 20 coins to play and you get paid in coins for each tile that forms any blocks. So for example a block of 5 of the lowest symbol worth 1 coin will give you 5 coins, or 0.25x bet. The blocks are valued thus: Purple Idol 30 coins, Blue 15, Green 12 and Red Idol 10. The 5 low-values stones are Jaguar 3 coins, Monkey and Quetzal 2 with Snake and Turtle 1 coin for each tile in a block of 5 or more.

All tiles in winning blocks fall to the bottom and the rest disappear and this continues until no more adjacent symbols are added from above. There are no Wild or Scatters because everything is cumulative here!

Row Features...

Now as I said there are 7 rows and if you look on the left, rows 2, 4 and 6 have a multiplier of 2, 3 and 4x respectively which applies to any winning blocks when that row is completely full with tiles. Row 7 has a Golden Arrow or Contact. Hit this with one or more tiles after any play and you'll trigger one form of the bonus spins. Fill the grid in full with winning blocks and you trigger the Super Bonus.

Bonus

So having hit the Gold Contact arrow you get 3 Bonus Free Games. On the right there are now ? question marks added to rows 1, 3, 5 and 7. Fill a line to reveal the secret enhancement. This can be an upgrade of one block of winning tiles, a 1-extra spin Star Stone or block destroyer which removes the lowest multiplier marker on the right and replaces it with the one above. You stay on the same free spin as long as you keep adding to the winning blocks, otherwise you use a free spin up to start a new grid. If you fill the whole grid up you don't trigger the Super Bonus but instead get 25x bet for each free spin you have left in the bank and the bonus ends.

Super Bonus

In the base game only, fill the whole grid up with winning blocks to get 6 Super Bonus Free Games. These work the same as the Bonus Free Games just described, but enhancements are tripled. You get 3 extra spins if the ? reveals the Star Stone, the upgrade will improve all winning blocks instead of just one type and the block destroyer will increase the multipliers on the right by 3 each time. Good fun when it triggers, which is hard!

Our View...

Contact slot doesn't scream out at you 'win 5000x bet!' like many Playn' go games and that tells you the volatility and potential are lower here than the usual releases from them. It's easy on the eye and the sounds aren't too aggressive either although micro-wins are quite common. The basic Bonus of 3 spins is quite common and you'd be very fortunate to see over 50x bet when it's over, so if you wait it out for the Super Bonus you'll likely see some good totals racked up. Yes, it may well be worth your while making contact with this weird and wonderful game where you find it...
