At first glance, Play n Go’s underwater-themed slot, Pearl Lagoon, looks a lot like other aquatically-minded slots fare – Sheriff Gaming’s superlative 3D sea-epic slot, Atlantis: The Amazing Adventures of Pierre La Mer and NetEnt’s watery slot game, Subtopia, spring to mind. However, (scuba) dive a little deeper and you’ll find, in true Play n Go style, something a bit simpler with their offering.
A colorful and fun slot with extras at a minimum, Pearl Lagoon draws you in with its light Samba music and wave wash FX in the background. In fact, at one point I half expected Toto’s yacht-rock hit Africa to chime in.
On this 5 reel, 20 pay-line slot we get everything you’d expect from a watery bit of slots whimsy: tropical fish, dolphins, sea turtles, crabs, seahorses, oysters that open up to reveal prizes, and the 10-through-Ace symbols filling out the reels.
Look out for the Dolphin symbol as our friendly Flipper acts as the Wild. Substituting for all symbols other than the Scatter, he doubles every winning combo that he’s involved in. Get five on the reels and you’ll be looking at a 5,000 coin jackpot.
The pearl-bearing oyster is the Scatter, meanwhile, and three or more of those trigger the free spins bonus game. All free spins – 15 in total to kick off with – carry a 3x multiplier and can be re-triggered up to three times. 60 free spins with a 3x – you do the maths!
That’s it for bonuses, unfortunately. Pearl Lagoon is basic, fun and quick, with little way in animation or extras to really get the pulses racing. For my money, I’d stick with the sea-faring slots I mentioned at the top of the review. Play n Go have come up with some nice slots recently, but this isn’t one of them.
