Sparky & Shortz slot by Play'n Go is one of those zany futuristic robot-lab game themes along the lines of Netent's Egg-o-matic and numerous others including Microgaming's older Robo Jack slot and WMS' even older Volts and Bolts slot. A giant robot hosts the reels here with a hovering bot to the right presumably called into action when modifiers occur. We have some weird and wonderful sounds effects naturally and space age music to listen to plus some odd symbols on the reels . So can we add a spark to our bankroll here or will we come up shortz yet again?
On the reels...
There are 10 lines here over 5 reels of 3 rows with stacked symbols on Sparky & Shortz slot. The Galaxy Wild is top pay at 20x bet for 5-of-a-kind, then Red Alien 10x, Blue 8x, Green 6x with five Gem symbols paying 1.2 or 1x for a full line. Power cell scatters appear on the odd reels as our final symbol here. Any reel landing fully stacked will add 1x to the multiplier for that round even if the reel doesn't count in any winning lines. Finally you have a multiplier Boost Meter to the left of 2,3,4,5 and 10x. This can be randomly activated by the Bot to the right at any time and will add to the full reel multipliers. You can tell when it's active as the full reel symbols landing will transform into full 3-row sized Alien symbols.
Landing the 3 Power Cell scatters awards 10 spins and a retrigger awards 5 up to a maximum of 100 allowed. During the round the multiplier collected in both the Boost Meter and from full stacks on the reels, displayed above the Bot, never resets, only increases and is unlimited. We are told 10,000x is possible in this round.
Sparky & Shortz slot has a 96.24% RTP and can be as low as 84.24% so check the rules where you are playing! It's not terrible to observe in the base game and can throw the odd decent win in when the multiplier is high but it really revolves about the bonus. It's not too rare for this to trigger but it's very volatile meaning many rounds can pay less than 20x in order to pay for the rarer big ones of several hundred or even thousand times. I wouldn't say the game came up short for me, but it certainly didn't spark my interest either...
