Free The X Files slot
Please be patient, some games take longer to load than others!
The X-Files slot is based on hit American Sci-Fi TV drama which became a global phenomenon, making the shows two stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, household names. They played Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, two FBI Agents employed to investigate the stage and unexplained, typically with a paranormal twist. There were 11 seasons of The X Files, mainly through the 90’s, making it prime for a slot game tie up. Aristocrat were successful in securing the rights for making a land based slot machine, but it is Playtech that have the franchise for an online slot. So will Mulder and Scully be able to boost our bankroll or will it get well and truly spooked?
On the reels…
As slots go, The X Files slot is a fairly standard looking game. We have 5 reels of 3 rows and 20 paylines in total. Top paying symbols are Mulder and Scully, naturally, at 10x bet for 5-of-a-kind (5OAK). Other picture symbols are 4x bet for 5OAK and A-K-Q-J are between 2x-1x bet. There is also a ‘I want to Believe’ scatter that triggers the free spins feature and Multipler Wilds, which I will come onto next.
Reveal the rifts
The Wilds have been aptly named Rifts in The X Files slot and they have a special feature to them. Rather than a typical Wild which have a fixed multiplier, these Wilds have a varying one. The multiplier for the Wild continuously spins while the reels are spinning and then when the spin stops so do they, rewarding you with 1x - 5x. This is a nice feature, but not something we haven’t seen before. Konami fans will know this already exists in slots like Lotus Land and Gypsy Fire. In The X Files game the Multiplier Wilds can be stacked and can also combine together to a maximum of 25x.
Rift free spins
Land 3, 4 or 5 ‘I want to believe’ scatters and you will trigger 7, 10 or 20 free spins respectively. The main difference in the feature is the Rifts (Multiplier Wilds) are sticky and will hold for the remainder of the feature once they appear. Obviously, the more spins you get the better this feature becomes, just as in Miss Kitty slot from Aristocrat.
The X Files slot on paper should be a bit of a no brainer. A generation of 30 - 40 somethings grew up with this show in the 90’s, so there is no hard sell on the theme. The 95.12% RTP and medium volatility should also be good enough to make this a decent game. However, the lack of imagination on the games main features, which all seem to be pinched from other games, is a bit of a let down for me. I would much prefer to head over to iSoftBet’s Paranormal Activity for my Sci-Fi kicks when it comes to online slots. The truth is out there for The X Files, its just not that interesting…
