Loco the Monkey slot by Quickspin is one of those silly cartoon jungle-themed games which developers used to like so much. Alas this game looks like probably the worst-ever of the genre, Microgaming's Mad Mad Monkey so let's hope it has a bit more about it, like Netent's old and now discontinued Go Bananas slot did or even Yggdrasil's Legend Of The Golden Monkey slot. Here we have jaunty bongo music, jungle foliage in the background and stone block reels so pretty standard fare for the subject. So can our bankroll end up going loco here or will we be taken for a monkey?
On the reels...
So we get 50 fixed pay lines on a screen of 5 reels of 4 rows each on Loco the Monkey slot. Symbols can appear stacked and the 5-of-a-kind pays are not huge, Bananas at 10x bet, Pineapples 4x, Mango or Lime or Blueberries 3x with six card values of either 2 or 1.6x for a full line. Wilds can appear only on reels 2 to 5 and these take the form of 4 different Monkey characters and finally our Gold Statue scatters appear on the first 3 reels. No modifiers, but we do get 2 features both of which have some promise.
More Monkeys! Re-spins
You need to land 4 or more Wilds in view on a single spin to get these. The Monkey Wilds remain locked and you get another re-spin if any land on the first and so-on. Wins are calculated when you've not landed a Wild on the re-spin and the round ends. You cannot trigger the bonus during this.
Free Spins
After landing the Gold Statues on reels 1-3 you get 10 free spins, with 5 spins for any retriggers. The Monkeys are sticky now and if another lands on an existing one it will raise to a 2x multiplier Wild, 3x being the maximum. There is some potential here for big wins but most of the time it is disappointing and rare to get over 100x bet.
Our View...
Put simply, Loco The Monkey slot is tripe. The only good thing is the 96.15% RTP but everything else is pretty dire. The graphics are childish, the sound effects even more so (and very irritating) and the features poor with little excitement and value. Don't even mention the base game. I say you'd have to be going loco to even consider playing this slot...
